        Shit, I just tested it on a few of my sites and they are both the same. When did this happen? So it doesn't matter now how I type in my domain when link building?

              It is a relatively simple piece of coding to say "when there is no third level, assume www". Sometimes the google guys are awfully slow to roll out the simplest fixes. Makes me wonder what the rest of their code must be like.

                Well,

                Its not an "issue" which needed to get resolved. Its fact that domain.com is different than www.domain.com, and as everyone knows PR is assigned to separate pages, not to websites or domains, so it makes sense to have different PR for each of them.

                And secondly, http://domain PR = http://www.domain PR theorem is not true. may be you noticed a couple sites where it fits, but infact, these two are separate things and must have separate PR, unless one is permanently redirected to other.

                  Hope they do the same with search.

                  Do a "site:www.blah.com" then "site:blah.com" it can be totally different.

                          you seem to be right

                          it also looks like they've fixed the www.randomdomainname.com and www.randomdomainname.com/index.htm issue. They seem to match on all my sites.

                                  In the first place its not an issue and doesnt need to be fixed - its supposed to be different - idiot - the only thing that may have been fixed for you is that your server admin figured out how to run Apache correctly.
                                  The only fix Google has ever done for anything to do with the differences between www.domain and domain was the tool they added to WM tools to set your preference for which got listed and botted - the PR (displayed in the toolbar I assume) was not and still is not an issue as it should be different - again dependant on your server config file(what the attribute servername is set to)

                                    anything.domain.com = www.domain.com (www is a subdomain)
                                    www.domain.com is not the same as domain.com

                                    no idea why should google fix this, it's not an issue!
