    Tech/SEO question regarding subdomains

My tech guy has set up a system on my server so that if I want to make a subdomain I just need to add a folder inside the public_html folder like sd_subdomain.

Then I can use the domain http://subdomain.domain.com

Using this method though I can't use the www i.e. http://www.subdomain.domain.com as the domain just refreshes to http://www.domain.com.

Does anyone else use this system or think that it would be a problem with search engines?

    Thanks for any replies

"www" in itself is technically a subdomain ;-)

    You shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks dissipate. What happens though if google visits the subdomain with the www in the address and it is then redirected to the root domain. Won't that look odd?

Also, is this the normal way to set up subdomains on a server? My tech guy set this up as I know nothing about how to do it.

      Thanks for any replies

Why would he want to add a domain when he can use an existing one to rate his own domain higher than itself in the serps and categorize it?

          You should be fine man.

Yes, its an ok to set things up. It's called wildcard DNS.

Google wont look for the www.subdomain.domain.com unless you link to it somewhere.
