    Websites Will Be Forced To Identify Trolls

    Websites will be legally obliged to provide victims with the identity of people who post abusive and defamatory online messages about them under plans by the Government.
    Major reforms of the libel laws will also see internet service providers given greater protection from being sued if they help to identify so-called internet trolls.
    About time.

                                      1. Its a UK law, so any sites outside the UK will not have to do anything.

                                      2. People will simply use fake info. Sites will set up to tell them how to hide there info. They will just set up fake facebook accounts.

                                      The simple option is such as facebook and twitter to simply provide advice to people.

                                      I tell people to simply never read private messages sent to you on twitter. I am not sure why twitter does not alow you to turn this off.

                                      Facebook could alow you to have a much higher security option if you wanted. One thought I had was if you were under the age of 16, to get facebook accounts you would have to do this at your school using a headmasters facebook computer account. By this schools would have to apply to facebbok for a school account and students could anly get an account if the headmaster approved it. It would reduce the liklyhood of people pretending to be kids on facebook two. If they realy wanted to facebook could request id from everyone before they got a facebook account.

                                          you must remembver that its a uk law and can only apply to those in the uk.

                                          the reason being is that we (in the uk) have a law that goes back a lot of years that was set up to protect phone operaters from abuse. this is the time when you had to phone an operator to be put through to somone. however the wording of the law for some reason applies to the net. also under uk l;aw there are things that you are not alowed to transmit (originaly only applied to radio/tv, but totay its being applied to the net). these are what people in the uk are being prosecuted on.

                                          so if somone in say germany trolls you, they cannot be prosecuted (unless germany has such laws).

                                          in truth this law is 'proberbly' more about the uk goverment looking as if they are doing somthing, rather than achiving anything.

                                          its unlikly to stop people.

                                          you alsop have the interpritation of what being a troll is. ie, some people set up facebook pages if somone they know has died. then get upset when people post somthing rude. to be i would never set such a page up as to me its rather tacky, and in truth i do not have sypothy if your page gets twits posting on it.

                                              The other problem is that what one person may see as being abusiver, another may see as comerdy.

                                              in the uk we probably have much harsher comedians than any other country. i suspect many in the usa would be shocked by what uk comedians say and i have noticed on some uk chatshows some of the usa guests are rather surprised by what the chatshow host says as they are used to everyone being super nice.

                                              its a bit like when that singer showed her boob at the superbowl. in nearly started ww3. yet in the uk no one cares if a man or woman goes fully nude and runds around on the pitch. in the 80's it was almost every game. and the holidays shows we had (i sure miss them) often had the camera man on the beach filming topless bathers (that was a family tea time show).

                                              yet go to france all there comedians seem to be toilet and fart jokes.

                                              so what is offencive to one person, to another is nothing.

                                                                                                      The law is to release the site owners from prosecution if they help the identify the perpetrator. Then that person will be prosecuted.

                                                                                                      Whether it will work or not is a problem. When it doesn't they go to the next step.
