Google+ users are mainly Google employees :D Also social network fame is generally in decline, people start realizing how they just wasting their time there.
For a few years Facebook has been the new toy in the room, but it's shine is rubbing off fast. Google is not going anywhere, and they won't give up.
I think Google+ is maybe their 3rd attempt at a social network, and even though it isn't currently the cat's meow, Google does tie its business tools together better than FB does.
What are FB's tools anyway? As a business you can set up a page, and hope for "likes" ? Is that a real business model? Google also owns "search" on the web. I have never used FB to find anything of importance.
Facebook will have to change radically in order to survive the next few years. Google only needs to tweak its all-inclusive approach.
I doubt it will be Google+, I know personally I abandoned it when I started getting more random people adding me to circles then people I knew. That's not to say something else will knock FB off the top of the mountain in time.
Just a few of the other Google projects that are successful.
and the first examples of failed Google projects that come to mind:
Google Buzz, google X, Google Catalog, Web Accelerator, Google Video Player, Google Answers, google wave, Wiki Search, Google Radio Ads, DodgeBall, Jaiku, Google Notebook, Google Page Creator, Shared Stuff, SearchMash, Google Lively, Google Print Ads, Google Knol,...

You're right about all of their failures, but you have to admit... Google will not give up! They will try and try and try, and when they succeed they dominate.
If Facebook fails, it just fails. They don't really have an established core like Google does. At the moment FB is just a massive time-waster. They may evolve into something more useful, or they may be gobbled up by Google or Apple or some other giant player, but if not, they won't survive.
If Google+ fails, they will just learn from the mistake, and try something else 6 months later. They will eventually succeed.
From a "big brother" standpoint however, governments may have FB's back, so that is an unusual variable that can't be taken lightly either.
Facebook will fail the same way myspace did. As soon as corporations start taking it over with pages and advertising (not saying thats good or bad), people will leave. I prefer G+ over facebook personally. Then again, i rarely use facebook.

I have close to 900 FB friends, maybe 20 that I don't know what our connection is.
2400+ people have me in their G+ circles. I might know 20 of them,
I never made a Myspace account, but it was HUGE at one point. I made a Facebook account, but really dont use it. I keep getting asked to "upgrade" my youtube account to google +, but let me be seriously honest here.. I don't even know what the benefits of it are, or really what it is.
I think social media sites as a whole will slip downward. I know a few people who thought it was cool telling everyone you were having dinner or watching a TV show. Now its just the same shit. I haven't posted a couple of months and just lost interest. The only thing I do like is Twitter, but just for the up to the minute news and events.
That's absolutely impossible. Google+ is for knowledgeable/insider web users... my MOM can get on Facebook - actually she thinks Facebook IS the internet...
Google+ is doomed...
My two cents...
:D
