Do you use derogatory names?

Another thread got me thinking about this... why is it okay to refer to others of the "same kind" by using derogatory names... but others cannot use those same names?

Example: I can call myself a cripple all day long and I get a few weird looks but nobody really says anything. A friend of mine yells "hey you crippled bitch? across Hooters and everyone gasps.

Why is that? Why do we care so much what some stranger calls us? Are we that insecure?

i woulndt call my mom a bitch..but the girls i hang with get a laugh out of it when i tell them to "run up to the stoe and get me a blunt wrap Bitch!"

Point=Respect

we have variying levels of respect for the people we deal with on a daily basis.Some of these repsect levels right or wrong are automatically infered.

Depends on whom I am speaking to. If it is an Eldar (damn cliches) then I am always respectful (assuming I care about them). Additionally complete strangers and the like I speak properly around. However if I know someone even in passing like you,then you cripple always running your mouth gimp is acceptable.

Yet I still refrain from calling blacks hahahahahahas or nigga's, I typically refrain from calling any woman a cunt unless I really want to piss her the hell off, same with wetbacks, chinks, japs, etc.

Sure, understood... but the question is, why?

If somebody you know and respect calls you a name in vain... of course you are going to be upset. You like this person. You respect them. You want their respect in return.

I think it's intention. When a stranger calls you a name, you can't be sure of the real intention behind their words. Were they intentionally trying to hurt you, or were they just joking around?

With your friends and family, you KNOW they love and care about you ( I would hope! ) so you feel safe even when they call you names.

Sure I agree - but I have a problem - I am gay as you know but I am pretty non gay in the way I act - not closeted at all, just 'str8 acting'.

So I make a group of friends and then they realise I am gay - there is always one or two that start freaking out. Names are called etc. I really hate it.....

That realy hurts - total strangers I dont care about - but people that I thought I was at least getting to know doing it is horrid.

Sorry, raw nerve that you talk about this today.
