I have been watching Metallica videos on YouTube off and on all day. haha Just watch Cliff play Orion. I wanted to cry. They need him so bad.
I think they will do it. It's in them. You don't lose talent like that. You can get blinded for a while and misguide yourself but it is always in your soul. I think someone just needs to give them a good ol' fashion ass whipping. Bring them back to the garage and play.~ loryn@loryntaylor . com ~

If they do put out something that goes back to their roots (doubtful for more reasons than just that their aging arthritic fingers aren't as nimble anymore), it'll likely be a one-off album. A treat for their initial fans but not something to expect for each album thereafter. Why? They're middle-aged businessmen now.
The fact is that their 'sellout' album was the one that sold the most, and allowed them to buy the fancy cars, big houses, and have their pick of pretty girls worldwide. That's why after that album we got more of the same - songs that were weaker, shorter, and more radio friendly. I feel they'll make a business decision based upon on how sales of albums since then have been, and what they expect today's music buyer will buy. Their albums now sell to more than one generation of listeners; there are even young listeners who prefer their newer stuff (lol).
They're not hungry teens anymore. They're parents and used to a luxurious lifestyle. They're going to do what they think will put more money in their pocket.Last edited by Drake; 10-27-2007, 04:19 PM.Comment

I do not think much of that is true.
The music is in them they can do it, over the years they have just opted not to do what thier fans have expected.
Hungry teens has little to do with any of it, they got talent and I am sure Hammet could still play blasting solo's like he did, if not better today if the band and producers gave em a chance.

Nope, Metallica still delivered when Jason was around. C'mon, despite his bass play being overpowered on Justice, it was a kickass production. Black album, different, but still godly. Oh and the genius that was S&M. Re-/Load may be softer and more rockish, but still much better than their latest album.

I don't think it was Cliff that made them what they were, they were just a kick ass band. Flotsam and Jetsam was bad ass too, so it's not like Jason came from Simon and Garfunkel or anything. I think like someone else said, their mainstream breakout album made them so much money they wanted to keep it going.
Well, theyre fucking loaded now so they should go back to making long, hard ass fucking songs. If they dont' get it on this one though, might as well hang up their guitar picks.

They can never return to their roots because they are too far removed from when they were young and angry.
They have evolved too much to create the music that defined them.
That's not to say that I wouldn't still see them live, cuz they can still rock!

I agree....I like megadeth too but its now "un-cool" to like metallica because they got really popular. Why is it a crime to do well in the music industry? But still, Master of Puppets was so fucking MONUMENTAL! Sooo good.
Why should they try to go back to their roots? Their hearts are obviously not where their roots are. They should go further away from their roots. They should try to make music that sounds like Neil Young.
