I used to love using names like "GOTHEFUCKAWAY", but I just turned off SSID broadcast, tied it to my MAC address, and change my WPA key every few weeks.
If someone still manages to get through that, I'll hire them for some grunt work.
Edit: setting a really strong key on a 'bogus' wireless with a standard name of "linksys", or "default" was fun to do in the old office.

Yeah... that works for me, too...
Though I don't really bother changing the WPA key but maybe once a year. If someone's using my network, I'll figure it out sooner or later, and take care of it then... but until then, there's only one system on my network with admin access, so I don't see the point in wasting the energy.
lol, that is the most awesome of ideas. I have my broadcast turned off and never had any attempts to connect to it, however this sounds like fun. I'm gonna turn the broadcast on and name it some scary shit... that will at least put a smile on my fach each day :D
Why don't you just stop broadcasting that you have a wireless network. Just turn that feature off and no one will know you have one unless you tell them.

So, so, so wrong. It's trivial to sniff networks w/ no broadcasted SSID. Hell, the default intel drivers do this as standard [ie, most laptops]
Just use MAC address authentication. Screw the other stuff. Kind of hard to fake a mac address.
Wrong again. It's a 2 second job to fake a mac address.
If you want to keep people out, you've got a few options
#1 - Let them in, but have your network VPN'd, so they can get on, but can't do shit.
#2 - WPA password of 63 characters. WPA keys have to be bruteforced still, with a 63 char password it becomes completely illogical to try to brute.
#3 - Let them in, but have an invisible proxy that changes all photos on all webpages to goatse [don't try this in the US, i'm sure you'd end up in jail for it]....
There are about 45 different wireless connections in my apartment complex ( I live right next to the Georgia Tech Campus). Mine is secured, but one that isn't is called Hrdcore Gay Porn Svr. The guy that has it tells me he has had no trouble with people using his wireless! I laugh every time I see that one.

LOL, I totally exploded on this one. Everyone in the room is staring at me like I'm a complete freak

LOL... great ideas there.
And, for the record, I think you'd be hard-pressed to get prosecuted for the goatse idea in the U.S... it is, after all, your network.

Sure, but what happens when someone complains that their kid saw goatse cos of you.. like the people who got busted for having sex in their own house w/ the windows closed...
I used to work in an 32,000 square foot adult swing club in LA
They used to have projectors playing porn on some of the walls...
Come the end of the night, nearly every disc ended up being stolen.
They decided to copy the originals and use the copys instead of loosing the originals... Naturally, the copys all got stolen too...
Then someone had the idea to change the writing on the blank discs, from 'sexy girls 3' (for example) To 'XXX Gay Twink Hardcore Male Buttfucking 12'...
