    Human race will 'split into two different species'

    The human race will one day split into two separate species, an attractive, intelligent ruling elite and an underclass of dim-witted, ugly goblin-like creatures, according to a top scientist.

    100,000 years into the future, sexual selection could mean that two distinct breeds of human will have developed.

    The alarming prediction comes from evolutionary theorist Oliver Curry from the London School of Economics, who says that the human race will have reached its physical peak by the year 3000.

              This is why "evolutionary theorist" should almost never be in the same sentence as "top scientist". He should stick to predictions about bacteria in petri dishes and experiments on fruit flies. This is among the dumbest things I've ever read. He thinks we'll all become one race but that we will split into two species according to class? lol. What's worse, he got the idea from a fiction novel written in 1895. Has he ever heard of genetic drift? Revolution? I predict that disease and/or war will end humanity before we reach 100,000yrs into the future.

                  100,000 years from now, Homo sapien will be extinct. We'll be something else.... but, even so, I doubt class will play that big of a part in our genetic drift into distinct species... it'd be barriers of travel, if anything... and by then, I'm sure we'll have expanded into other plantary environments... so planets could be the grounds for species diversification.

                  As far as disease and/or war killing us off... I doubt it. We're too resilient as a species. Some of us will survive... and hopefully be able to diversify enough after the genetic bottleneck to survive the next tribulation.

                                      That's a very futuristic and optimistic outlook. You paint an interesting scenario. If we do actually begin living on other planets then I suppose it's possible. I erred when I said 'genetic drift'; I was referring to gene flow. In your scenario gene flow would be inhibited. But I don't see how gene flow would stop if we all remained on earth since no barriers to travel exist; it's only gotten easier.

                                                  I think there's some merit to his prediction. Those who belong to higher socioeconomic classes will opt for genetic customization of their offspring, leaving the rest of humanity behind. However, I don't necessarily believe the poor will devolve into "ugly goblin-like creatures".

It assumes that the higher socioeconomic classes will not only opt for genetic customization, and that lower classes won't have access to it, and that those who do get this genetic boost will not at any time form relationships and have offspring with other classes. It also assumes that such complex genetic engineering would be successful. Finally, it seems to pre-suppose that the remaining population would stop evolving positively and regress. Why would any of this be true? Events could unfold completely differently.

                                                                      I guess I just see this 'theory' as a bit 'out there' and less than useful. He should write a sci-fi book about it, but it's already been written.

                                                                              This is true, I suppose it would be far-fetched to conclude that class differences would be enough to inhibit interbreeding. Although I don't doubt Homo sapiens will one day evolve into one, two, or even three different species. Such is the way of evolution.

                                                                                                                                  According to various estimates, it is thought that humans started migrating from Africa into different geographical regions anywhere from 50,000 - 100,000 years ago. These numbers are continually shifting as new insights are made.

                                                                                                                                  But yeah, I agree that an argument can be made to contradict his claims. I mean, why didn't this class species seperation emerge in humans or our predecessors in Africa.

                                                                                                                                  I just think it's not worth delving into. His theory is just such outlandish fluff on par with a Nostradamus prediction rather than hard science. Such claims coming from a 'top scientist'..

Not to mention a whole fucking lot sooner than latter. We are litterally just a few steps of privacy away from it. Currently people will trade std tests, you can do at home drug tests, send of dna samples for other studies like parental etc. Just would really take one lab with some serious guts to offer some deeper dna testing.

                                                                                                                                                                                  Oh and there are now sperm banks that pre screen in certain ways for looks, race, education level and IQ of parents, athletic builds, etc. Perfectly legal so far, and they claim its not for superior breeding stock lol.
