    Google applies for .lol tld

Besides .youtube .docs etc. they also applied for .lol

    http://googleblog.blogspot.nl/2012/0...ain-space.html

In total various companies have applied for over 1900 different new top level domains, including .gay and many others.

ICANN will have a competition to select the first 500 applicants that will go trough the approval process.

With the amount of new top level domains that might come over the next few years extensions like .xxx will be pretty useless.

      1900 applications x $200k = $380m

ICANN is getting $380m just for looking at a couple of thousand applications?... even if it's limited to 500 applications, that is $100m

                          Why?

if there are only coms there is X number of domain name choices for someone.
If there are coms + 100 more tlds there are the same X number of domain name choices + extra domain choices out of the other tlds? Even if they are crappy its still that same X + crappy ones. Still more than X + 0.
