that's an EXTREMELY uncharacteristic gun owning crime.
much more characteristic are the following scenarios.
a gun is improperly stored and a kid gets hurt or killed by playing with it.
a gun owner uses the gun to kill his wife/girlfriend.
a gun owner kills a friend or neighbor in a drunken rage, or a drunken accident.
yes, sometimes a gun owner will use a gun to commit a crime in hopes of making money, usually because they have lost their job and been out of work long enough to be desperate. but, it's a planned crime, not often an impulse crime, and the carry is illegal from the outset, not permitted.
this all is entirely seperate from the many people who are already inclined to crime who get guns either legally or illegally, which of course is also relatively common.
