Birds - especially the small songbirds I see around my place all the time - don't like heavier winds, so I assume most have continued their annual migration South while some are still holed up North, along the shore, waiting for the winds to die down.
Birds, generally, have a very dull sense of smell, but I'm guessing that the fires are also doing nothing to keep them around.
In a word: Mexico.

there are still none around here by my place in studio city. didn't see any ravens in palmdale today when I was out there. usually the damn things are every where. so you think they split instead of hiding out in a ditch or what ever? when I was over the hill earlier today I didn't see any more birds than usual. less even to be honest about it. I was over the grapevine goofing around in kern county.Comment

I don't know about LA, but in winter thousands and thousands of birds from Russia migrate to South Asian countries.
So I guess birds of LA also migrate to somewhere .. may be Mexico.
