LOL the difference between California and Louisiana

People at Qualcomm stadium are offering Yoga, acupressure, AA meetings, kids are finger painting pictures and hanging them on the walls.

In Louisiana during Katrina you get raped or murdered by either the citizens or the police....LOL

Doesn't it suck when stereotypes actually fulfill themselves?

I wonder how many stores have been looted from this fire? Anyone who's there confirm this?

Somehow I don't think rich people need to take shelter at Qualcomm.

California will be back good as new on a few months.. While New Orleans will stay as is for a long time to come...

But... There are differences other than the money people...
Yes.. they all, or most have adequate insurance and will rebuild immediately, but there are also the cities/politics that will see to it that things get done..

Many of the folks in New Olreans had no such insurance.. or the right type.. and the powers that be in New Orleans are mostly crooks, with no desire or ability to hurry things along..

It all can't still be thrown back on FEMA..

The people at Qualcomm also have electricity, plumbing, food, water, supplies, medical staff, and logistal help. And they aren't trapped.
Not quite the same situation in the least.

The roads are still open for emergency crews to get supplies and help where they're needed. Nobody (as far as I know) is stuck on their roofs, waiting to be rescued.

At least the people in California had some warning that they should evacuate, not like Katrina. Oh wait, they were warned to leave, thats right.

Great comparison. A few homes burned down and only three roads closed and it's equivalent to Katrina.

500,000 evacuated so far and the fire is still completely out of control...I'd say it's a decent comparison.

There were some looters, 2 18 year old kids caught trying to loot some beer.

other than that I have heard of nothing.

The reason Katrina was such a disaster was in large part because all of the roads and bridges that led into the city were destroyed or underwater, and there was no way to get supplies to the people at the superdome or convention center.

A fire is alot different than a flood. You can't really compare the two.

Maybe fulfillment is for those who seek to be fulfilled to justify their own feelings.

I'd say that if you saw two turds on the ground you would swear that one of them was from a white person because it stunk less.

You may have overlooked this.....I was watching CNN and noticed that a number of the "services" being offered had fees involved with them. The news may have shown the services but they failed to mention what they cost. They are showcasing the signs mentioning the services but avoiding signs with the prices on them which can still be seen in the background.

I don't know if it's a fair comparison. Now if you had to evac the entire city of SD and then cram a bunch of them into Qualcomm, maybe that would be closer.

except right now they're urging san diego citizens to go elsewhere and head north. someone mentioned "3 roads" being closed down - Interstate 5, Interstate 15 , and CA 76 were all close down. 2 of those are pretty major "streets".

A fire is alot different than a flood. You can't really compare the two.

The red cross had thousands of bottles of water and food three miles away but the state wouldn't let them in to hand it out.

By Saturday, however, the point became moot because the large-scale evacuation of the city was under way, Howell and Mayeaux said.

"After that point in time ... their rescue operation was in full force, and they felt they had adequate supplies there to take care of it without (the Red Cross) being introduced into the situation," Howell said. "So we did not go directly into New Orleans."

The National Guard began moving large quantities of food, water and ice into New Orleans and other damaged areas of southeast Louisiana on Wednesday, two days after the hurricane struck and a day before the Red Cross made its request to go in, Mayeaux said.
The biggest problem right after Katrina was the large number of people who didn't evacuate...all of the city and state's resources were devoted to rescuing people from rooftops, they couldn't spare the personnel to escort the red cross into the city.

I agree it was a total clusterfuck and I'm amazed that we didn't recall our governor over the way she handled it.

That being said, you can't compare a fire to a flood the way it's being done here. They're not the same thing.

There was National Guard their to keep order. It was hot as shit in there, wet and the plumbing didnt work, literally shit everywhere but those people did not act like animals. I don't think they would have given a fuck about AA meetings or Yoga or finger painting.

I wonder how many of you have ever been in an emergency situation such as these? Having grown up in SoCal the fires are devastating - always have been and always will be. Think about it. We're talking hundreds of thousands of acres destroyed. So far, we are at about a billion dollars in damage. This has nothing to do with how rich or poor you are. If you knew anything about San Diego or Canyon Country or any of the other places, MOST of the people are hard working, blue collar, or middle class people. It is not cheap in any situation to replace everything in your household. It's even worse to helplessly sit by and watch your house go up in flames as some people have done.

So these people in SD can get in their car, drive 30 miles to a restaurant and eat or to a grocery store, get food and stay with a relative or in a hotel.

People in New orleans, couldn't leave, they were stuck on roof tops for days, wadded through water and looted to get food and water. Sure there was some exceptions of idiots stealing clothes and non essential stuff. There is idiots in every location, look at the LA Riots for an example near you of idiots. Or what about the F5 tornado that destroyed that midwest town last spring, the locals were looting other people's destroyed houses... bad apples everywhere, lots of ignornat people here who don't know the difference.

Try this for a fair scenero, how do you think the people would act if they couldnt evacuate their neighborhoods, the fire was blocks away and moving at them and they were stuck their for days with no food, water, police to maintain order etc... do you think they would be finger painting then.

                                                                                      fucking morons.

People of New Orleans were given more notice than the people of California, its just the people in California have enough sense to leave.

The whole argument of being too poor to leave or having nowhere to go doesn't make sense to me either. Catch a bus, find your friend who has a car, drive your own car, for christ sakes, go camping. Fuck, I do that for fun. The people who were trapped in New Orleans choose not to leave. Not that I think what happened to them was justified or anything, in fact I think it's really sad. But the fact that they were warned and told exactly what was going to happen weeks before it hit means they either didn't believe it or didn't care.

I know if the weather service and local government told us that a hurricane was going to hit Phoenix with the force of Katrina, I sure as shit wouldn't hang around to see what happens, especially if I had children.

You are a great "arm chair leader"; the events on the ground don't seem to sink into your head.

Where the fuck do poor people go???

The huricane warning was for all neighboring states!!
Were they suposed to walk to Oklahoma or something???

                                                                                            Catch a bus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, find one that's not already packed to the fucking gills!!

And finally, the people who stayed were actually correct because the huricane totaly missed them. The huricane hit in the next state and flooded the river there know as the Fucking Mississippi River. The river then flowed back to Louisana and flooded the place after the levees broke.
There would have been no disaster what-so-ever in New Orleans if the levees had held like they were built to.

The people who fled Louisana and went to Mississpppi got hit by the fucking storm. Meaning that some of them simply fled to their deaths.
