easy way to make a members area

depends on what you are trying to achieve with your members area.
if all you need is to place a 'manual' login and password, you may want to check a tool like "phpaccess" - google for it. (Assuming that you use php/apache.)

yeah i do use php and apache. im trying to create a members area that will give my surfers extra features live feeds and that kind of stuff. so what im looking for is a script where a user can sign up it would then email them with a verification email then give them their login info to get access to the other part of the website

You just need html, hehe! Build it and throw in external payment (for example ccbill), they provide payment solution and user/password tools. 1-2-3 doesnt get easier

to my understanding you are NOT looking for a payment processor, right?
just a free area, only behind subscription.
if so, there are a couple of options you may consider:

1. get an out-of-the box cms (i reccommend joomla, but it is a matter of taste). this will allow you to create a full featured content area only for registered users. setting up the whole thing if you have no specific joomla experience, but assuming you have some basic php understanding, may require you about a day of work, including the design). You may have some headaches if you want to fully integrate your current 'guest' content, but it is feasible and a flexible solution.

2.if you don't plan to dive into this, you may just get a script that connects to htaccess and sends login/pw to a registered user. although there are php workarounds, if you go this way you are better off using a perl script - you host should allow perl, though. search for something like "member registration" on hotscripts.com

correct im not looking for a payment processor. just something that works with htaccess, real simple. just trying to create more stickiness and more bookmarkers out of my tgp by making them think their getting something more(which they would be). as well as making something a little different than the average tgp. Joomla i think is a bit more than what i need.

you recommended using joomla and im thinking thats a good idea,
heres my situation and let me know if you can give any feedback..

i beleive with joomla i can get better seo than with the tgp software(i use comus) but what im trying to figure out is how im gonna integrate them together.

right now i think to build a joomla site throw the output from comus into a wrapper in joomla.. but... i dont like the idea of the iframe.

so what im looking for is a way to to do it without the iframe

any input??
