The 9900 is their "premium" phone with the highest resolution of all of them. With that being said, I would not go with any Blackberry phone these days. Both their hardware and software are behind the likes of the HTC One X, and iPhone 4S. Both of those are dual core phones, with the HTC offering 1280x720 and the highest pixel density you will currently find on a phone... with the iPhone offering 960x640 resolution.
The HTC One X runs Android 4. If you consider yourself a "power user", that's what I'd go with.
i don;t consider myself a power user really. what i am looking for is something that has both decent performance as well as good battery life. i was considering blackberry because i've used one for the past 3 years and been fairly happy with it. i am not looking to get an iphone really as the plans i have available to me charge a lot of money for them in comparison to other phones but anything else i'd consider i suppose.
you don't know you're wearing a leash if you sit by the peg all day..

I've had 3 generations of Blackberries myself, and I've got a couple sitting in my desk right now actually... and for years I recommended them to everyone, and basically convinced everyone I knew to buy them. But really their time has come and gone, and they're no longer powerful phones like they used to be.
On launch day of the iPhone 4S, I was ready for a change... and I took the opportunity. iOS is a very polished operating system that is equally as stable as BB OS. I have a few gripes, namely the fact that you can't browse the phone's file system... you can't transfer files to other phones via Bluetooth... you can't pull files from your network... and some of my biggest issues with the OS relate to lack of integration with apps like Facebook. BB OS was better in those regards...
But with all that being said, you will find iOS or Android 4 to be a much more gratifying experience. Much faster, and more consistently fast.
Oh and if you're a big fan of push email like I am... just download the Gmail app and your phone will function in exactly the same fashion as a Blackberry.
Black Berry and RIM are fucking dead and broken, someone will buy it soon.
If you live on the US I cant see any reason to dont get the iphone, since its fucking cheap.
If you live in the rest of the world, you should get a samsung galaxy, because its the same as iphone but 5 times cheaper... here the iphone is fucking expensive in comparisson to USA, here an iphone 4S costs 1200 dollars, fucking insane if you ask me... in USA it's only 300 bucks...

htc one doesn't seem to be available but the galaxy is and the iphones are there but 300 some odd for the best ones. i'm not really crazy about spending that much for a phone that comes with a 3 year contract.

Just buy whatever phone you want in full and get a rolling monthly contract. Then when you want new phone, sell the one you bought and use that revenue towards new one.
It really is the cheapest TCO of a phone.
Getting one on a contract is usually done by people that cannot afford to buy the phone outright from the get go.

It wan't on the first Galaxy S, but I now manage to get a full day out of mine. My girl has the Galaxy S2 and it can go almost 24 hours on a single charge, when a battery monitor app.

is that typical for phones these days? I have an blackberry pearl flip and i get 3-4 days before it needs to be charged. i don't use it much but would hope i can get a phone that lasts more than a day before it needs to be charged.

I have the Galaxy Nexus now after using IPhone since the beginning. I can't imagine getting a Blackberry anything these days.

I think most Android phones will get you through the business day. I can unplug mine in the morning and get through to the evening. My phone is notorious for having battery issues, so I use a app that monitors and shuts down services and apps that use up battery. IE. When my phone goes into sleep mode, the data connection is disabled...until screen is turned back on.
The Galaxy S2 my girl has gets about 36 or so hours on a charge.
well you guys have convinced me. i am going to go with the samsun galaxy s2. i can also get the htc raider but from doing some research it seems the S2 is the more liked phone.
edit: i just realized that the nexus is not the same phone lol. so the nexus is newer than the s2? too many choices..
If you are able to get the Galaxy Nexus version of the S2, that would be my recommendation. The OS updates come from Google (ie. sooner than everyone else) and the phone isn't loaded with all sorts of carrier cr-apps.

this is the nexus i can get "Samsung Galaxy Nexus I9250M (Black)" I don't really know if its the s2 version or what really.

Only problem at the moment is that it's only available on ATT in the states in the One X format. TMobile will get it soon and Sprint will have what seems to be a dual core version of it coming out in two weeks or so.

usually but not allways, my wife just got a galaxy note for £20.50/month on a 24 month contract (500mb data/500mb openzone wifi/300min/unlimited texts). and yet the cost sim free for that phone is about £440. so in her case on a contract she's getting data/minutes/texts, in effect for £26/year.
I don't like blackberrys honestly, keyboard is too small.
