On a side note, I also remember when I was 13 there was a gas station where it cost 50 cents per pack. And another that still had an ancient nickel soda machine which was awesome.

They have had those since the 70's that I know of, just can't have them in a public area where kids can get them. Like a bar.
When I smoked in the Navy, I was buying cartons for $2.30. And I own a coke machine that uses 15 cents for the 8 oz glass bottles

Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
