There are way too many factors for me to list... but to answer your question your dollar is worth perhaps one cent per bill if that... however trade and US policies up it to an excitable level... not a simple subject... Copper pennies, and nickle nickles sure...
Technically the penny is a loss leader anyways. Costs more to produce than it is worth. Also would cost more to seperate than you would get on return under almost all circumstances.
Most coins are just coated metals now adays anyways. Then again money is printed on a denim fabric (as in levi jeans) paper mixture. In essence along with the special inks it is more valuable than it is. Though that could be said of any currency if you stripped away the political power behid the paper money. Even if on a gold standard or not.
Hell can anyone tell me if the Iraqi money was on a gold standard before the war?Comment

I think people are confused about the exchange rate. A dollar is still a dollar in america, no matter how much it falls in comparison to other currencies. Now if you're an american tourist you're in for a shock come exchange time, but otherwise...Comment

Life don't work like that
When a nation imports more than it can export and prices are being quoted for buying in dollars, manufacturers are going to charge more for weak currencies. End result? Imported goods cost more.
Same with oil - the moment there are currency changes, OPEC changes their available product. Gas does not necessarily become cheaper. (Again.. much of this problem has to do with a lack of refining capacity - another story).
Unstable/weak currencies affect everyone - and this currency is going nowhere but downwards in the forseeable future.Comment

Way back when, a US Dollar used to buy you half a tank of gas, then a gallon of gasoline a few years back. Now it only buys a third of a gallon. Next year, it might not buy a thimble full.Comment
