My hat's off to anyone that can make it through this. I've seen some sick stuff in my short life so far, but there's just something about this movie that makes me so uncomfortable. I know that's part of how they want it to be....but damn. I've tried to watch it twice. I think I'm good without seeing the whole thing. The writer, Anthony Burgess was a great commentator on the times. The film spoke to the end of the baby boomers and the gen x crowd because it chronicles the decline of western civilization so well that was part of our experience. It made total sense while experiencing the total shit that Ronald Reagan and his buddy Thatcher were.
It may not speak to you because we are now living in the time where the movie is actually more relevant than ever. We are living the movie now.
To me, Full Metal Jacket was much more violent and disturbing...Comment

I thought it was quite good myself, maybe not worth the hype and the British ban (yeah, i know it was a self-imposed ban) but still a good movie and, indeed not a difficult movie to understand.

You gotta remember for the year it was made too, 1971 it was pretty cutting edge and super modern, both stylistically and technologically.
By today's standards it's really neither ,technologically dated and stylistically just wierd - like anything "artsy" from the 70's (or any decade) and so we are forced to try to appreciate it purely for the message and social commentary, which makes it quite a different experience now than it was "then" when hipsters could just groove on all the trendy polyester and hi tech music and ignore everything else.- As soon as I think up a good sig it's going here.Comment
