    So I am watching 'Clockwork Orange' again....

    And I still do not get it.....

    Perhaps I should try watching it sober - but I think it might be even worse.

    I met Kubrick once when I was very young - (If you are good I will tell you that story one day) - Its a shame I had not seen the film then - I could have asked him what the fuck it was all about.

    Anyway, back to the film - Alex is about to get his kit off again....

                  Maybe I am trying to read too much into it and missing the point. Maybe it is a film about crime, retribution and and an attempt at rehabilitation. I don't think so though.

                  Its funny how many referances I see in other films and even music that comes later.

                                              It's based on an old book http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Clockwork_Orange I remember by parents use to have it laying around when I was a kid. It has an entire glossary where you can understand what they are talking about.

                                              Kubrick is perhaps my favorite director but I admit this is not his best movie, not even close.

I've seen some sick stuff in my short life so far, but there's just something about this movie that makes me so uncomfortable. I know that's part of how they want it to be....but damn. I've tried to watch it twice. I think I'm good without seeing the whole thing. If anything I should probably just try the book lol

                                                                                              The writer, Anthony Burgess was a great commentator on the times. The film spoke to the end of the baby boomers and the gen x crowd because it chronicles the decline of western civilization so well that was part of our experience. It made total sense while experiencing the total shit that Ronald Reagan and his buddy Thatcher were.

                                                                                              It may not speak to you because we are now living in the time where the movie is actually more relevant than ever. We are living the movie now.

                                                                                              To me, Full Metal Jacket was much more violent and disturbing...

Try the book. May be better if visuals are too unpleasant...

                                                                                                                      You gotta remember for the year it was made too, 1971 it was pretty cutting edge and super modern, both stylistically and technologically.

                                                                                                                      By today's standards it's really neither ,technologically dated and stylistically just wierd - like anything "artsy" from the 70's (or any decade) and so we are forced to try to appreciate it purely for the message and social commentary, which makes it quite a different experience now than it was "then" when hipsters could just groove on all the trendy polyester and hi tech music and ignore everything else.

The woven tapestry of words and images create a unique movie that is as much art as it is entertainment. It's supposed to be disturbing and on different levels. It creates a loathsome character and turns into almost a hero of sorts.

You have to place it in its proper time to understand it, the movie came out in I think 1971 and for its time it was so overtly violent that it garnered an X rating.

                                                                                                                                                      by todays standards the violence isn't as big of a deal. As social commentary it still holds up as a great one, one of the top ten Libertarian themed movies of all time in my opinion.

                                                                                                                                                          I didn't find it that disturbing, really. Plus, it isn't THAT violent - it tends to be sporadic scenes rather than constant.
