are there too few banks?

in the uk, there were a few but many have merged so there are basicly 3 or 4 big banks (that own other banks).

in most areas we have a monololies system (we do in the uk) to stop firms becoming to large and so kill competition.

if there were lots of small banks then if one failed it would be alowed to without bringing the others down and so need to be bailed out.

i realy do not care if bankers are paid huge or not as if you do not like how a bank operates then just change banks or do not buy shares in it.

its like your supermarket, if you feel they are not operating the way you like you do not shop there. for instance i find tesco rather naff and expensive so i do not shop there, but others may like the placee so they use it.

but the problem is banks seem so large that competition is almost non exsistant.
