Another that I can't pull up in the mind right now that is in Europe... it handles alllll the international TLD's and is pretty darned good.

These are the best, I've found. They tell you where iit was registered then you go to the registrars homepage.

www.alldots.com Gives you results for up to 99 domains at a time or somthing. Don't know if they pul results from all registrars though

I've actually just been going to http://www.internic.net lately... although it appears that when it's with some of these places that you need to go to their site to get all the details. Sucks! I used to do whois.net or netsol.com but now neither works for shit.

what do you want whois for? if you're looking for available domains, i'd suggest doing it from a unix shell.

edit a file with the list of domains you want to check. then run:

for i in `cat file`
do
host -t ns ${i}. >/dev/null 2>&1
if [ $? -ne 0 ]
then
echo $i might be available.
fi
done

then whois only the ones that show up there. mucho faster!
