If you hated the POPO before here is a new reason.

Private Prison Corporation Offers Cash In Exchange For State Prisons

As state governments wrestle with massive budget shortfalls, a Wall Street giant is offering a solution: cash in exchange for state property. Prisons, to be exact.

Corrections Corporation of America, the nation's largest operator of for-profit prisons, has sent letters recently to 48 states offering to buy up their prisons as a remedy for "challenging corrections budgets." In exchange, the company is asking for a 20-year management contract, plus an assurance that the prison would remain at least 90 percent full, according to a copy of the letter obtained by The Huffington Post.

just make sure to hate the Judges and the Politicians as well because they are the ones doing this and getting rich. Bad enough as it is, and this will make it worse.

if privatization is what americans want that is fine....but the part about a guarantee fo 20 years business, and 90% full is odd.

They should be reviewed constantly, and if their standards slip they can be replaced.

If we fixed the education system, less prisons would be needed -- but we're a culture that doesn't fix problems at the source.

Keeping the 90% full requirement is harder then you think. You can google and find prisons that sit empty do to lack of inmates.

If only Texas and Cali could increase the number of prisoners and move them out of state...

This is why pot will never be legal.

It is also why new and unusual criminal laws are currently in the works as we speak.

Gotta feed the corporate prison systems!

Healthcare and Prisons should NOT be For-Profit operations.

This is a spine chilling thought. Profit being made by putting people in jail. In the end they will find a way to actually BILL you for putting you in prison!!!!

Its a matter of time before the prisoners have to pay to be incarcerated.

The part that scares me the most is that the company that owns the majority of these for profit prisons is being allowed to effect new laws and get them enacted.

They are making massive profits from the slave labor.

This lines pockets, and accomplishes voter suppression at the same time.

The more citizens that are branded as "criminals" the more people are no longer legally allowed to vote - even after they get out!
