the euro brought so many good things: Prices keep rising but people keep having less to spend, economy completely fucked up, and now the meltdown of countries. Nice going, EU.

LOL, what ?!? You'd make a good greek....

they are in shit because 1 out of 7 active Greek is on the government payroll, tax dodging is the national pass time and like many borrowed thinking good times would last forever..
Lets' play the greek blame game and point the finger at the Germans, the IMF or the EU, for actually trusting us and carrying our sorry asses for so long.Last edited by Slappin Fish; 02-13-2012, 02:56 AM.Comment

Let me just say that all the Greeks I've ever met and worked with have been really intelligent, hard working, cool people, and very far from lazy or stupid. On the other hand I guess those ones are the ones who came to the UK to work. I don't know what the rest of the Greeks are like.Comment

They were that way, WAY before they had the issues of today... what you listed is the talking points "after" the fact.
Greece is where America is going, for the exact same reasons. Borrow big and spend it on your friends, ask for help - get more loans, pay more friends, move what free money they do have (ie our states) spend that in markets, and lose it big money friends.... then cut spending that they need money to pay back interest but they have none because they spend it all, thus they cut education, wages, pensions, etc... to free up money, and finally, blame the people for the problems when the people never created them.
Social systems do not bankrupt countries... politicians do.

Did you even read my post?
If they were that way WAY before shouldn't they be blaming themselves : "greece" instead of the Germans, the IMF the EU...
Right wingers usual do that, surprised you'd do the same: rationalizing a situation by comparing it to the US. 750 000 civil servants in Greece, a country of 10M. If anything they are raping the social systems, it's about profiteering, privileges and corruption. It is estimated each Greek spends $2000 a year on backhanders, 25% of greeks admit cheating on their taxes...I could go on and on. not saying saying they're lazy, I'm sure many are hard working people but they need to take a good hard look at themselves before pointing fingersGreece is where America is going, for the exact same reasons. the greek dug their own grave, the fault of the EU is to have believed their crooked statitistics that got them into the Euro
when you have a country where corruption and tax evasion is a national sport and an incompetent administration (despite of being the biggest employer) is not even able to process a tax report in a timely manner, then it's bound to go under at some point.
it should have been stopped years ago, but politicians were too busy filling their own pockets
sorry to my greek friends, i like greece, i have been there in the past, but dumping money into a black hole and in return being called a Nazi is kind of annoyingComment

Yeah I read it... that's why I responded.
You act as if politicians go around blaming themselves, rather than everyone else.
All I did is state what actually happened... right wingers never do that.Right wingers usual do that, surprised you'd do the same: rationalizing a situation by comparing it to the US. 750 000 civil servants in Greece, a country of 10M. If anything they are raping the social systems, it's about profiteering, privileges and corruption. It can be directly compared to America, we are taking away the peoples benefits all over, already invested, and lost trillions 1/3 of the wealth poof... basically shifted the money away, bankrupting the system on budgets they blew out.... "exactly like greece".. the money went to bankers, the cronyism is off the chart... what happened to them, is "exactly" what the extreme right are pushing to happen here, it's what has been happening for 30 years or so.
Greece has been like that for decades, exactly what you listed, taxes and all without any issues - affording it without problem... the issues "ONLY" started "AFTER" politicians started spending them to death, then taking from the public funds, and so on... again, exactly what is happening here.

It can't be compared to the US. Corruption isn't the norm at every level of society in the US, tax collectors don't put checks strait their own pockets in the US, etc. Forbes ran a test using google maps to find pools in Athen's suburbs, out of the 17,000 pools only 324 had been declared on tax returns...this isn't just about a government, it's about scamming in every corner of greek life.

Again, you're talking about events "after" things went to shit... Everything that happened to them is 100% the Gov's, Politicians and Banks fault.Greece would have self destructed years ago if they hadn't conned the EU...

Through the 70's Greece had one of the fastest growing economies in the world, like #2... as the 80's hit the peak slowed, so the gov started to pumped money in to the eco - to keep the gravy train going, thus inflation took off, this made the gov spend more to try and drive it down, but by the 90's they had spent too much and inflation was out of control. Really, this was one big pay off after another - everyone had money, so they spent it!
So during the 90's they cooked the books and got in the EU, yet didn't really change anything. As inflation dropped by almost half, they spent more on bullshit - like buying up public corps, rather than paying off debts.... during this time they rape everything, every fund, public money driver and rework them. Now the peoples benefits AND money are gone.
2010 shit hits the fan... the interest payments are more than they have.
All of which had zero to do with peoples pensions, taxes, jobs, etc... and it had 100% to do with the Gov, politicians and banks, taking massive paydays, over and over and over - they first took the countries wealth, then the corps, then the peoples money... which is about to happen again when they bail them out, this time other countries are paying out... it just keeps repeating.Last edited by TheDoc; 02-13-2012, 07:27 AM.

The problem is with the clowns who thought all it needed was a single currency without a single Chancellor of the Exchequer. Or what ever they would of called him. They allowed these broke countries to keep borrowing until they were so far in debt getting them all out is a massive if not impossible task.
Also if it was such a lame duck of a country, why include it in the EU in the first place. Don't even bother to explain that one because it would open the door to ask about Bulgaria, Rumania and ever considering Turkey is madness. But there are people sitting at desks who need something to do or they will have to do nothing all day.
And it it chasing that dream of a United States of Europe.

You want to make this about the government fucking the people to fit your agenda instead of looking at individual circumstances. Unlike say Portugal, Ireland, etc. every greek has been going at it for himself for years. But if you can't move beyond an ideological, dogmatic conversation there is no point really.Everything that happened to them is 100% the Gov's, Politicians and Banks fault.

Where the the working class control the means of production, distribution and exchange?
Where only personal property is private and industry, land and agriculture are socially owned?
When is this likely to happen?Comment

It already happened here... the money went straight from our citizens to the elites, exactly like the socialism in Greece.
What they're working on now (here) is taking the working mans life savings/investments. The elites need to pay for more corporate screw ups, wars and even better healthcare for themselves, but of course they get us to pay for it... those damn socialists!

If Europe wants to have a union, same currency etc, then the wealth needs to be spread to the poorer states from the richer states.
Thats how the fed does it in the usa, and the fed gov't in canada. So share up Germany.
These problems will exist until either Europe comes together even more so, or breaks apart.Comment

At least they have the balls to fight against something they don't think is right. Back here people just love taking it in the ass from Obama and Bush administrations.

Interesting perspective sire.Originally posted by Jesus H ChristI've said it a few times on here, but the EU and the Euro would of been a great union/currency if Germany, France, the Netherlands, CZ, and Austria formed first and made it a privilege to join. IMO, it would of been the most solid currency in the world as the DM was.
