if you go up high enuf it will be cold regardless of the proximity to the poles..fact is the temp drops apprx 2 deg centigrade per each 1000 ft gain in altitude, if you were at 5000 ft, the wx is 10 deg colder than at the beach.. rule of thumb for us astronuts..
