Ok, this may sound like a really stupid question but how important are model release forms. I have this girl who I've known for a while who I recently did some pics with. How important is it to get a model release before I post them anywhere on the net. I know this girl well so I know if I posted a few pics she wouldn't sue me. Please, any input would be appreciated.

But yeah, model releases are very important! If you intend to make money from any photographs you have produced (girlfriend, ex girlfriend, your neighbors window) you need a signed release form from the model to make it legally yours.

She may not sue you but her boyfriend may when he sees the pictures on the net.
So that she does not turn around and say they were private photos and never meant to be published. OOr is this why you do not have a model release? Iff she is so cool and will not mind ask her to sign a model release and also get 2257 documentation.

By signing she will be giving you authorization to do whatever you want (listed on the release) with the pics.

also get documentation of 2 forms of id. if you get accused for c/p and dont have documentation, you're fucked. if you just want to do this with one set of photos, i would recommend just buying a set for like $20, it will save you a lot of hassle in the long run.

If she is a good friend -- just write up an informal document in plain english so you can agree on how the pics will be used... you don't want her to be pissed at you anyway if she is really your friend. And of course get her ID -- I hear it's a good idea to scan the ID + get a pic of the girl w/ her photo ID in her hand next to her fucking face...
I'm not sure how many people on GFY have actually taken a model release to court -- but I'm pretty sure that the contracts w/ the most weight in court are in plain english and aren't overly complex...Comment
