Deposit the the check. After 30 or 60 days, checks doesn't bounce, then use the money.

99.999% of the time it's the bad check scam. They'll ask you for most of the money back. You pay, then find out their check is worthless.

They do this with rental deposits. And so many other scams.

They do it on any CraigsList posting.

I had some car dealer in "Canada" send me a check. Did a Google Maps search. The address was some farm field.
