    Anyone here has any idea how to setup a VOIP server ?

    The idea is to sell subscriptions on the internet OR selling plastic cards that can be scratched

    u use your normal phone then or mobile phone, dial a land line that connects you to the VOIP centre, then u enter a numerical code and a password, then dial the number u wish to call from your phone anywhere in the world and get connected to this other land line or mobile phone for very competitive VOIP rates !

    What is needed to setup such a system other than some money and hardware ?

    any programmers here familiar with this ?

      I know guys that have set this up and if it were only that easy. It's like saying "I think I'll plug my toaster into my network cable to make high availability networked toast." While that sounds delicious and practical (very practical), you'll probably electrocute yourself in the first 8 seconds of trying this. It's not a simple solution going from land-line to VOIP. Just a tip before you get into the deep technical manuals on how that stuff works and really doesn't work.

          Thanks man, i know it is not that easy, and i am no technician what so ever, but i've used a similar product and seen it work, so i know it is possible

          and i am good at marketing things and i see a good market for it where i am now, i just need a good technician who has done it before, and i do have an estimate about how much setting up such a system might cost !

          If you can point me somewhere to some people, would be appreciated

              so who did this before ? or should i try to hit a non-adult programmers forum

                  this can be done using asterisk , there are many asterisk programmers you can use .

                      Well, a friend of mine sent me a link to an Asterisk free source code, still reading it and i see it could be done, but quite complicated, i am not into linux that much, few command lines here and there to keep me going and already forgot them when they launched SSH explorer.. Damn Windows and user friendly crap! lol .. but my partner is a software engineer so hopefully he knows more than i do about that

                          I would suggest you go all out and buy yourself a switch. Asterisk is fun but a Class 4 or 5 software switch would be allot more fun. You can either get you CLEC license, Colocate with another CLEC, or build your own small central office.

                          My friend owns a telephone company and hes got a little over a million into his whole setup for one central office... but this does not include billing and other fun cost.

                              How much does one of these guys costs ?

                              the switches i mean ?

                              cause Asterisk is totally for free

                              i have no intention in spending a million, but yes i wanted to setup my small centre accomodate for starters 5 - 10K subcribers

                              and my budget is 1/10 of a million for this, i assume it is duable,

                              i do not know much about it, but that is no reason for me not to enter into this i guess, i will just keep asking and reading

                                  Asterisk can do what your thinking. I honestly was just joking and did not actually think you would come this forum to post looking for million dollar solution.
