Forbes: You will NEVER kill Piracy but Piracy won't kill you

    Bold statement from Forbes...

    Here's another excerpt:
it?s worth pausing to consider how the war on piracy could actually be won.

It can?t, is the short answer, and one these companies do not want to hear as they put their fingers in their ears and start yelling. As technology continues to evolve, the battle between pirates and copyright holders is going to escalate, and pirates are always, always going to be one step ahead.

But what?s clear is that legislation is not the answer.

Yeah. The idea of legislation sure scared the crap of the the people benefiting from not having to actively police their sites for stolen material. Guess we should eliminate all laws since the criminals are always one step ahead, might as well throw in the towel. GFY Forbes.

I cover when video games and business collide.
It?s not a physical product that?s being taken. There?s nothing going missing, which is generally the hallmark of any good theft.
Look at him. He downloads everything off of torrents.

Are you saying he might be biased?

He's right though. You will never stop piracy. A friend will copy something and hand it to a friend and that will never stop. And piracy will not kill you? It might put you out of business, it might mean you lose your job, lose some of your income, but it won't kill you.

You will never stop murders by the passing of laws and murder won't kil you, unless you're unlucky enough to be the victim. So this ass clown thinks we should legislate against murder?

Or bankers running off with our money, or corrupt politicians embezzling the tax payers, and any other crimes we can't stop with legislation?

Maybe Paul Tassi likes to share his work and wealth with others. I choose not to. Legislation is aimed at reducing crime, not stopping it.

This guy is an idiot. For one thing, he seems to think that the theater experience is obsolete. While many people(myself included) would love the ability to watch a just released movie in my home, there's still nothing that will match seeing a big blockbuster on a giant screen with state of the art sound, in a room full of strangers -- enjoying the shared experience. That will never go away. They could charge $30 a ticket, and the people who love that experience will still pay.

But I love the new trend of releasing small films on VOD services like VUDU, as well as the theater. I gladly pay the $9.99, because I don't want to go to the theater to see it.

Anyway, the guy who wrote this article likes to steal, and doesn't see anything wrong with it. He's an asshole.

Bullshit...I have seen piracy killed and wiped out almost completely...from every street corner being full of pirate DVDs to a complete reversal...just a matter of the police doing their job....

The net is even easier to police...just turn their websites off and let the pirates waste time and money setting up shop again and spending $$ on new traffic...

Piracy is dead not when the last pirate is killed but when the whole model becomes unprofitable for pirates and a pain in the ass for "file sharers"...who cares if a few pirated copies pop up here and there the relevant thing is that these "golden days of file sharing" are coming to an end...

Actually, it's a pretty good article if you take time to read it. Nowhere does it say he gets all his movies from torrents. Some people on this board have reading comprehension problems.

It's amazing how we, the young people who know how piracy really works agree on this. But all the old farts in this board who started lots of years ago when it was so fucking wasy and almost didn't have any competition keep crying and saying it can't be stopped. They have no fucking clue....

Yes, it can be killed i totally agree with you.

the solution is to work with the laws you currently have and solve the problem technlogically

6 spectrum color has been available since the mid 80
autoscopic 3d has been been commercially viable for the theaters since the mid 90

we still don't have personal cameras that can record autoscopic 3d which means every cam ever release on the torrents could have been a crappy 2d replica of the full 3d experience

every cam could have been the crappy 3 spectrum color approximation of the true 6 spectrum theater experience.

Number 3 is a pretty cliched attitude toward movies. There's lots of great movies being made these days, and not just independent stuff. If you only watch Adam Sandler movies, or the latest romantic comedy of the week, then you would think movies are crap. Just these last 2 months of seen some of the best movies I've seen in a long time.

Regarding number 2 -- you're saying a company that puts out a product has no right to charge for it, because they're spoiled and living in the past?

But all the old farts in this board who started lots of years ago when it was so fucking wasy and almost didn't have any competition keep crying and saying it can't be stopped. They have no fucking clue....

Yes, it can be killed i totally agree with you.
You can't kill it completely but you can EASILY remove most of it and I'm talking about 99%. Does not matter one little bit if "kids are used to "sharing"" what matters is preventing easy access and taking out all the quality places.

When finding piracy, for the average user, becomes a pain in the ass, then they WILL look for other options

I think we will always hear comments, such as "you stole my designs." There is no sure way to stop all plagiarism. By the way, we all use the same words from the same English dictionaries.
