    I love when people pay 50k a year to send their kid to private schools and then bitch when some stupid fuck who makes 45k a year teaches your kid something you don't agree with.

    I make more money than any of my friends who grew up attending private schools. I like to rub that fact in their faces every chance that I get.

            So many opinions, but it's most important to talk to your child and help them to think rather than to react.

            My 12 year old son had a Social Studies teacher last year that had differing views from our own. He would come home from school talking of things and I would look at him and say, "your teacher really said that????"

            To whit we would then discuss things from both sides helping him to understand rather than to just accept something from an authority figure.

            My wife and I are moderate-conservatives, but that doesn't mean I don't agree with some of the leftist ideas. I don't blanketly accept right wing principles either.

            Anyways, I would most highly agree with the statement that this discussion is a little heavy for a 3rd grader and probably the most important discussion would be to ask the principal and the teacher if 9/11 and Afghanistan and Iraq are part of the 3rd grade curriculim. If not, then her response to little Johnny that asked the question should have been that there are many opinions about what has happened and is happening and he should discuss them with his parents to gain a better understanding. I don't think her or her husbands political or historical views belong in the classroom.

                I would call the teacher and just say what you said here. Open up a line of dialog with her.

                I used to see it a lot when I was on my kids' PTA board at school: parents would get upset and the first they'd do is go running to the principal or superintendent, instead of contacting the teacher to possibly resolve the problem.

                Maybe what she has done is open up some dialog. I know the subject of war is probably not the best for 3rd graders, but with all of the coverage, it's hard for them to avoid hearing about it. Everyone, including teachers will have some sort of opinion on it. Keep it on a 3rd grader level, but see about opening those lines of dialog.

                                Sure, the point of paying for your kids education is to emphasize Academics, which does include politics. I'd confront her and tell her if she is going to teach about that, she should present all sides of the issue and not be biased.

                                    I believe you are right. For whatever it's worth coming from some arbitrary person on a message board. Nobody should be brainwashed and if you are paying for your children to be taught then they should be taught properly. That woman indeed has imposed her own narrow minded view upon your child and whoever was listening and is doing a great disservice to education in general and to your community. You know it to be right and making a big stink about it is a good thing, proving that you want to raise your child properly. I wish more people would stand up to things like that.

                                    It is not my opinion, this is fact. To say something so ignorant to a young mind is a crime. It is child abuse in it's purest form. So yes I believe you should make a big thing about it. I hope my words have enforced your belief in the fact this "teacher" was wrong.

                                                        Well, I live in Las Vegas, after moving from LA and the public schools in both places are shit. If you have children then you'll probably understand that I'm just trying to give them the best possible opportunities in life that I can. It doesn't guarantee their success, but at least it gives them better odds at it.

The problem started in 1918 when the British appointed a king (sunni) to rule Iraq for them. It was NOT a good move and the rest is history. Bush just made it worse...

                                                                        I would have the teacher "written up" like she writes up kids of her own for doing stupid stuff in class.

                                                                                I'd definately bring it up with her and/or the person above her. I'd make it a point to say that while you appreciate giving different points of views on things like that, that she needs to do precisely that; give different points of view, and not just her own.

                                                                                Someone once said that it's a measure of intelligence to be able to carry conflicting thoughts on any one matter at the same time. Someone else said that was schizophrenia. I'll let you decide.
