You can get big ones that carry large cameras and are GPS guided. You can get the tiny one. You can get one thats flown with your iPhone and records everything, you can build them yourself pretty cheaply.
They arent new, but have become more popular since brushless motors, lithium-polymer batteries, and surface-mount gyros have dropped in price.
You can thank China for that.
