I normally get on OK with Google, but today I got a voucher for $50 of free advertising on ADWords and when I entered the code it said my account was 'too old' to use the coupon.

I hear ya. I had a similar experience with Facebook advertising. I had just gotten the 50 dollar voucher in my inbox and it said its expired. -_-
Thats how these companies get you to spend money. -
