    Confused about hosting plans

I'm really confused about the pricing I see for VIRTUAL HOSTING ACCOUNTS.

I'm currently paying $99/month for 500gb in transfer and 2500mb space.

I want to start submitting galleries and free sites so I'm revisiting my hosting plan and found the incredible difference in pricing.

VELCOM is advertising 2000gb in transfer and 500gb in storage for $3.95 a month.

What gives? How can I be paying $95.05 more per month for way less? Am I missing something?

I am not sure where you are hosted now, but Naked Hosting has virtual plans starting at $9.95 per month. This gives you 100GB of storage/1000GB of transfer and free cpanel, fantastico and true 24/7/365 support.

The same level of service as our dedicated servers. Hit me up if you have any questions: sales at nakedhosting dot com or ICQ 61462417

I dont know that you are missing anything, but some companies will cut corners (share IPs and oversell bandwidth) to provide low prices. OC3 doesnt offer VPN, but feel free to hit me up on ICQ if you have questions!

Sharing IP's really isnt that bad.
The people that offer that much bandwidth for that price are overselling the bandwidth, meaning they sell you bandwidth they may not even have.

That said, 100 a month for what your getting is a rip off.

Well, depends on how much a host oversells his space and especially bandwidth. They all do for virtual account, but if they get too greedy, you'll end up with really slow loading sites...if loads of people are running scripts (traffic trading, blogs, etc.) on the same server, it gets even worse.

$99 for a virtual 500gb/2.5gb is expensive, but don't expect much for $3.95. The relation of 500gb storage and 2000gb transfer is ridiculous.

For galleries, speed and reliability are essential, you are fine with some seo sites on a virtual, but I'd never put any high traffic stuff there. Any downtime could fuck with your submitter rights/accounts, get your galleries delisted, get you banned from a tgp.

The super cheap vhosts will often dump your account well before you use up what's supposedly been allocated to you, so don't assume that the $3.95/mo hosts are ultimately better value. On the other side of the coin, you're probably being overcharged by your current host - you could get a low end dedicated server for that monthly fee...

                eg

                theplanet: Celeron 2GHz/512MB RAM/80GB HD/750GB transfer, $69.00/mo
                webair: Pentium 4 3GHz/1GB RAM/120GB SATA/1000GB transfer, $99.00/mo

Our virtual accounts come with a dedicated not shared IP. You can add IP's for $1

If you go with the super cheap hosting, you get what you pay for. Some of them throttle your cpu cycles, some of them have t&c that make it impossible to ever use your provided bandwidth, etc. Cheap hosts will oversell their servers and use cheap bandwidth.

One thing is for sure, if you are on a cheap plan, you will have slow loading galleries and that often results in getting a bad rep and getting banned from submitting to a lot of places.

Go with a good quality host.
