Just because the hackers haven't targeted Hostgator or any of the other hosts mentioned here in this thread does not mean that they are incapable of doing so. It just means that they haven't been targeted. There is no way of knowing if they will strike again or who they will target next. Zappos, Universal Music, the FBI, and the DoJ have also been targeted over the past couple of weeks.

I have a few mainstream sites with HostGator and do like them as well, but do prefer the wp install on dreamhost.
Oh, and the recent attack on Dreamhost only compromised actual ftp and shell login passwords. Not the actual dreamhost control panel passwords as alluded to in one of the above posts.Last edited by jimmycooper; 01-21-2012, 12:32 PM.

Hostgator and Amerinoc have been targeted before, same as almost any hosting company out there, that's not the issue. The problem is Dreamhost seems to be the usual target, I even have heard they have some kind of rogue admin. Dunno how true can it be, but I have heard that several times. Either way, it's kind of scary that every single time some host is compromised, Dreamhost is on the list
