Of course, whether you'll make sales off the traffic or not will depend on the site you send to and the type of traffic you buy. Not to mention how good of a marketer you are. Not all traffic/sites are created equal.

I've hear from old school webmasters that they use to buy niched traffic for
their galls and they use to double profit from sales...

Put it this way, if ALL traffic you could buy would turn a profit right away, then NO ONE would be selling any. You can turn a profit with bought traffic, or you can turn a loss. Ask people who have extensive AdWords campaigns, not many of them made a profit right away. It takes time and tweaking. Some have the skill and patience for it, some don't.
