    Why do they have to change the layout?

    Gmail finally forced me to use the "new" layout. It basically looks the same, but as if I selected a new skin. What is the point? It was fine the way it was, we are all used to it and know exactly where to click for each action. And now have to learn these stupid buttons and other stuff they decided were such an important change.

    Facebook is next. And probably too drastic. Most people are still hanging onto the same old layout. But apparently everyone's page is going to be changed to this more picture oriented layout. Why? Facebook for the most part is about peoples status' and what's on their mind lately and the pictures come 2nd. Who's idea is it to do this mess? It's such a risk especially when it could allow another social network to prosper.

      I felt the same about gmail, but using the cog/gear button (top right) I selected 'Compact' and that makes it virtually identical to the old look

          youtube is another one that was much better long ago, I don't know why they have to fuck up something that is not broken

                  go to the settings at the right, and set it back to the old look, and also fill out the form there to tell them that you don't want the new look, I did it

                      You can change back to the old lay out temporary "so they say" using the Options button.

                          I have a funny feeling that they are doing it on purpose, to somehow confuse things so they can sneak more social features in which will maybe be uncomfortable for privacy, they want to take what should be simple (email) and create a confusing mess trying to get us to hook up everything in our lives to it, photos, cellphones, friends, contacts, aquaintances, etc... google is getting way too evil I think, they are envious of facebook but will push forward on their quest to know everything

                                      I really like the changes G does on all their apps... I love the new designs and the new functionality. The only think that I always end up using userscripts for is Google Reader... Google just wastes too much space for my taste....

                                          Lol the "compact" setting is apparently what I'm already on. But even that has too many subtle changes that I hate. Why can't I just click a button that says "archive" instead of clicking an "archive icon"? Between my xbox, smartphone, computer, etc. I have enough icons to remember. Gmail needs the K.I.S.S. method.
