Whos a Good Dedicated Host
I am currently with SoftLayer used to be theplanet. I am looknig for a deal with 5-10TB of bw per month on a 1000mbit line 2.5 TBs of HDD space with 4-8GBS of Ram. I have a pretty good deal now but was wondering what the competition out there was.

Depends if you want to piece of mind and quality or the lowest possible price? The planet is slow and most of the servers are desktops.
DWHS has premium servers on one of the fastest networks, fully managed, for $99 right now.

It's a blend with global DNS and about 8 premium networks. One of the fastest on the web, was rated faster then 92% of the internet by alexa and was 12 times faster then hostgator last i checked.
I don't think the network side went down once in 2012, fricken amazing really.
These $99 servers are clustered blades though, so no root access. They are dedicated because you get a dedicated CPU, MOBO, RAM, the case and hard drive is clustered.

Looks like you're based out of QuadraNet on 530 W. Fifth Street. Looking at a few things, it looks like you use their BGP.

Sorry, I disagree. How does he know he is getting the best deal, if he DOESNT shop around?
For example, I took out my home broadband about 5 years ago. Its £17.99 per month, and has a 5 Gig cap on it... At the time, it was a good deal. However I am currently moving to another provide who is going offer me an uncapped plan, (Plus a box to get me more TV stuff) for just £7.99 a month, and the first 6 months will be free !
Point being, that if I didn't look at other offers, I'd still be paying £120 a year more for a lesser service...
So I say YES - Look around ! See what else is out there. Unless you look you wont know

I agree with CS. I recently moved away from host with whom I was reasonably satisfied. My uptime was good, support was decent - I hosted with them for years. However I still paid for this years old box the same type of money newer boxes with superior specs go for elsewhere, with providers who also appear to have good uptime and support.
Nothing wrong with looking around for ways to get more for your money. If you get more, you can typically offer more to your readers and that typically results in more return for you. I know I felt there was nothing wrong with my host before, but seeing how new box has been providing me with far better response times and less freezing, I consider my switch a wise move.Comment

Yeah it's a great, we use almost half of our blend from them. We have some racks in the same building. I recommend them for high end custom dedicated servers and colo.
But for basic managed and shared of course we are better

Because who's to say that since the time when you signed up for your host, (and did research at the time etc...) That SINCE then, there isn't a competitor arrived on the scene, that offers an equally good (if not better service) at half the price?
I'm not saying that there IS... Just that it makes sense to look around

I do not know if "stupid" is what I would say in that particular case. However, I would not be so hurry to just jump ship on cost alone. I can see if you were paying $500.00/mo. and now you could get comparable service for $100.00. But that is typically not the case.
