Um, I think what they're comparing is their guitar-playing style and overall talent, not their songs.
The best recommendations for who is a great guitarist often comes from great guitarists themselves. If Hendrix once said that Billy Gibbons was one of his favs back in the day and that he liked the guy's playing then that's good enough for me.
I'm sure if Hendrix had of known Alex Lifeson, or Tom Scholtz of Boston, or Peter Frampton for that matter, he'd have liked their playing too.
