Iranian electronic warfare specialists were able to cut off communications links of the American bat-wing RQ-170 Sentinel, says the engineer, who works for one of many Iranian military and civilian teams currently trying to unravel the drone?s stealth and intelligence secrets, and who could not be named for his safety.

Using knowledge gleaned from previous downed American drones and a technique proudly claimed by Iranian commanders in September, the Iranian specialists then reconfigured the drone's GPS coordinates to make it land in Iran at what the drone thought was its actual home base in Afghanistan.

It shouldn't come as any great surprise. This kind of stuff was new in the 1980s. Now any kid with a fucking wireless router can do it. Yeah, I know, I'm talking more or less....

What they'll need to do in the future is make it so that these things do not take in any radio communications. Fly them on a pre planned course, teach them to record anything interesting, and then fly back. If you can't command in the air, they can't take control of it.

i would love to know the real story here. U.S. military stuff like that doesnt just malfunction when on a serious misson and theres no way the iranians brought it down on their own.

would love to know what is really going on here.

Many believe China and or Russia were involved for the hacking...Makes sense considering their relationship with Iran and not-so-friendly relationships with US and what both countries do on a daily basis as for cyber attacks.

Its fairly certain it was not shot down but brought down under control...by the looks of it from reports.

You seem to think the Iranians are sand monkeys... That might have been true decades ago, but believe it or not, they do have some very intelligent engineers these days. The Muslims pioneered many scientific discoveries throughout the ages and theorized many of the same conclusions as other more well known scholars long before the "Western" world.

Do a Google search, about a month ago there was a story about the U.S drone computers being hit with a computer virus, the military confirmed it was true. There was probably a post about it on GFY.

I wonder if this is related.

No, not at all.

Rip out all equipment that can receive (or transmit data). Once it's in the air, it's on it's own - you can't radio it and tell it to change course or come home. Program it to fly a certain route, target certain areas. Train it so that when it sees something out of the norm to look at it closer.
