Hey bro, isn't that the same Torrent Spy that just got banned in the U.S. by court order? I'd say that those Alexa numbers are gonna change REAL fast for them in the next few days.
Score one for the good guys.

make watermarks. and clips are too short so these sites are just teasing and sending traffic to sponsors. Why is it wrong.

You sir, are clueless. Comparing TGP's vs regular torrent sites is just stupid. Go plot your nice graph again, but do it with some porn-only torrent sites and you'll see that the surfers visiting porn torrent sites are really just a handfull compared to oh say Torrentspy and Piratebay.
95% of the people that visit those torrent sites are just looking for an illegal copy of windows, their favourite tv-show or that one mp3 album they heard the other day.
I agree that handing out complete member area's is just stupid and should be stopped, but why complain about those 2-5 minute clips that are posted on porntubes? It's just business, a fast evolving business that is. Stop complaining and get with the program or feel the consequences in a few years from now. I have the distinct idea that very few people here are innovators, and that's what we should be right at this moment. Stop bitching and go find a way to make money off of those porntubes, I know I've found one.Comment

Weppel, you need to learn more about men. A 5 minute clip is enough for most of your potential members to get off. Once they get off, they are NOT going to reach for their wallets. The easiest sale is with their dick hard and ready for action, not when they have a hand full of kleenex getting rid of the evidence.
Typical TGP galleries are less than 2 minutes total, and require anywhere from 3 to 6 clicks to she that, every 20 seconds. Everytime they have to click, they have to put down their dicks and lose enought of thier buzz to just about restart the clock at zero. That is the idea, that is marketing.
5 minutes clips is like a restaurant giving away the steak hoping you will pay $30 for desert. Enough free steak and everyone skips desert.
Weppel, congrats, you have found a way to step over a dollar and pick up a dime. We are all proud of you.Comment

Puretna is strictly a porn torrent site, so that graph is what you're asking to see (with the exception of TorrentSpy.) I do think that Puretna is the largest porn torrent site however...so others will be smaller.
But what happens when the porn viewers in this 95% you speak of decide they wanna find some porn to watch? I doubt they'll forget that torrents exist, especially when most have sections dedicated to porn.
The more free content that is given away, the worse ratios will become. This has been evident for years. You speak as if this method of increased free content could go on forever whilst still making sales - unfortunately it can't. At some point the ratios become so horrible that the bandwidth used / effort exerted cannot be justified. At this point and beyond paysites lose their budget to buy new content. And since content purchasing declines, content creation does, too...unless, as Paul Markham suggests, you are able to create content extremely cheaply & still turn a profit (but we're talking 20 cents a movie here.)I agree that handing out complete member area's is just stupid and should be stopped, but why complain about those 2-5 minute clips that are posted on porntubes? It's just business, a fast evolving business that is. Stop complaining and get with the program or feel the consequences in a few years from now. Back to the affiliate perspective: Say you decided to promote cams and/or dating instead of paysites because that content cannot be torrented. What would you use to bait the surfers into coming to your site? Hopefully not video clips or pictures, because surfers will have torrents for that. And they can get high quality full-length movies, not mid to low grade 10-20 second clips.
If torrents continue to distribute 5 min+ clips (and that's being conservative,) it will eventually make all types of freesites & paysites obsolete. Anything that is not concrete will decline significantly in value. If you've come up with a business model that doesn't involve content, then I applaud you & hope it works out. If not, then I'd come up with a new gameplan before telling everyone to simply 'adapt.'

I wish you luck as we are definetly on the same side of the issue here. The torrent sites are scumbags. That's bottom line. I am going to be attending the piracy roundtable that they are hopefully going to be having in Amsterdam since I can't make it to the L.A. one.
As far as why surfers still come to the REAL TGP's. That's an easy one. It's a matter of trust. If you notice also...Shavedgoat and Grampland offer more than just galleries. We have things for the surfers to do. We were the first to offer humor on a porn site way back in 1996 and I've continued that tradition to this day on the ShavedGoat site.
But back to why they still come....there are several factors. Trust is the main one. They KNOW that I won't fuck them, or let them get fucked, or have anything that can infect their computer or link to anything like that. I know it may sound far fetched to many of you...but people DO develop a trust and a relationship with a website. I'm an entertainer, and that's what I do. I try to keep my audience entertained.
The difference between something that is "okay" and something that is "good" is very small. But it's those little details that make all the difference in the world to the surfers. That's why I keep my shit looking like I designed it with Crayola crayons! LOL! Surfers feel more comfy that way. My sites feel like that old neighborhood bar that you've went to all your life. The place is dark, and old, and smells funny. But you'll go there and pay 3 dollars for a beer. Even though you could go to the store and pay 3 dollars for a 6 pack.
It's just a matter of building up an audience and having them get to know you. That's why all the fake TGP's can't make money. And that's why it's so damn hard to start a new TGP and make anything with it.
And as far as the Alexa stuff goes....all I can say is the same thing I used to say to all the guys who went crazy with all the big circle jerk TGP's a few years ago. They were doing crazy numbers for the time..over a million uniques...but it was all circle jerk and blind linked traffic. Useless.
And as I would see them at the shows and listen to them talk, I reminded them over and over that the ONLY statistic that really mattered was the number of dollars going into the bank account.
Now most of those sites are long gone. But the real ones are still here. And will be until the day that the govt. finally shuts down all free porn sites. So yeah, I'm doing better than ever. The torrents are NOT gonna last. WE are going to put a stop to piracy. I've already done a few things that have cost me personally. But I'm putting my money where my mouth is and I'm walking the walk as well as talking the talk.
What costs me a little now, will be worth it in the future. But the present is still better than it was. If I ever find myself going backwards in the amount of money I'm making....well fuck that...it just isn't gonna ever happen. Just not an option.
Unfortunetly I see more and more people going to torrent sites for their porn as they find about them. I agree that you have loyal customers that will stick around but i think more of them are going to go where they can get the most shit for free. The more that go to torrent sites the worse it is for the rest of us.Last edited by will76; 08-28-2007, 09:21 PM.ICQ: 86364801 Email: will [at] innovativeassets [dot] com

+403 from the " just adapt" people who have no ideas on how to adapt. But it sounds good. You sir, are clueless. Comparing TGP's vs regular torrent sites is just stupid. "just adapt" is the mantra from the people who are likely already fucking the industry over by running torrent and tube sites with long videos and tons of unrelated sponsorship banners and links.
"just adapt" roughly translates to "don't fuck up my scam".Comment
-
Agreed.
Hell, by "adapting" I've been having to increase the amount of length of movies I give away. My own way of doing it is to give away more length at the cost of quality. 10 Minute samples but give them away at 56k quality.
Truth is, anyone with any skill with the internet just gets their shit for free. My accountant and all his friends share a rapidshare account and just trade gigs and gigs of stolen shit for free..... they have the entire lightspeed site ripped and all of Nastydollars as well....https://3-veo.com/

As advertiser on some of the biggest sites, I regulary watch their traffic numbers:All this talk of TGP's "sucking" and "stuck in the 90's" is blatantly untrue. Me, The Hun, Pierre, Shemp, Greenguy, and a couple of others are running stronger than ever before. You guys are making the mistake of confusing us with the THOUSANDS of clowns who bought some software and made a "TGP" Those are NOT TGP's. And they do suck and always have and always will.
-Thehun has almost 4 milions around one year ago, now according sextracker it is 3,2 milions (today)
-Worldsex has almost 2 milions around one year ago, now according sextracker is 1,5 milions (today)
they are loosing their visitors very fast, but I must say, that main part of buyers (quality) still remain.Comment

paul: good luck adapting to competing with people who give away free content. you realise you can download entire paysite rips? how are you inteding to compete with this?
this is nothing like tgps in 2000.... they were not necessarily giving away unlicensed content - it was often bought from the content producer (like u). there are well run tgps that do not lnk to ANY unlicensed content.
please name a one tube and one torrent site that isnt 99% unlicensed.BarefootsiesComment

Actually this is a great deal like TGP was when it started.
Before TGPs surfers were lucky to get 20-25 pictures for free, and most got caught up in some circle jerk, or console hell, a dozen times for every free site they found, and about 80% of what was free was from the same Busty Babes CD from Zmaster, by the time they landed on a paysite tour they were begging to buy just to find some real porn.
Sign up ratios dropped like a stone when TGP was giving away hundreds of new pictures a day. It got much much worse as "The Rules" for getting listed got more and more surfer friendly.
Threads like this were written, a lot of people said cut it off, it is hurting the industry, it will ruin sales, others said adapt. The industry adapted, sales got worse.
There are a lot of people in this thread saying adapt. Those that do not learn from history, are doomed to repeat it."As pornographers we must act responsibly! ;))"- Nickatilynx

Whose sales got worse? Are you forgetting WHO the big paysites were back then? They were HORRIBLE. Max Cash and ARS were the big programs and at that time they were busy circle jerking back and forth to each other with non-ending pop ups. And their members areas were nothing but Zmaster content from the 1980's. THAT was the reality then.
When companies started shooting their OWN exclusive content and released hosted galleries is when sales went through the roof!
The problem that has happened over the last few years are the thousands and thousands of "fake" TGP's that have flooded the market with those hosted galleries. And every other link a blind link.
It has hurt just as badly as the paysites when they had all those pop ups and their entire business models were based on exit traffic and not memberships.
This is NOT history repeating itself. You are comparing apples and oranges.TGP's market, and have always marketed toward selling MEMBERSHIPS TO PAYSITES. These torrents are doing NOTHING like that at all. They are stealing our content and getting paid by dating sites.
TOTALLY different. This is nothing but pure thievery. Please don't lump TGP's with this bullshit.-Robbie

I agree with you and OldJeff both, but I think you missed the point he was trying to make. He wasn't saying it was the next step like TGPs were to picposts or whatever, he was just elaborately stating that as larger quantities of videos (with longer runtimes) are distributed, sales ratios will continue to decline.
Please don't lump TGP's with this bullshit.
Also, a point he didn't include, but that I would like to repeat is that eventually it reaches a point where content production costs cannot be returned. At that point content production is hindered and eventually stops; dissolving the industry.Last edited by c-lo; 08-31-2007, 12:21 PM.

very true! very intelligent observation!Compete with them. Make sites that appeal to the surfers more than they do.
Content costs are so low as to be a very small factor in starting a site, so please stop whining about it. It's a red herring and you know it. In fact if I gave you all my content and you used the same method we all do to drive traffic, you would still need to charge $30. The selling price is governed by the affiliate system and not the cost of the product.
The one thing that allows them to give out content for free is they are not paying 60% to 75% of their turn over on "traffic". Do the sums and work it out. Then take out 10% for processing.
Sell the surfer what he needs at a price he will pay and if you answer he will not pay, pack your bags and leave by the back door quietly.Comment

Give up the stolen audio argument, no one cares about it. If the movie industry cared about people copying 10 second audio clips from their movie they would say something about it. It doesn't hurt the value of their product at all, unlike torrents.do you guys get pissed about other stolen content? or just afraif of torrents because its YOUR CONTENT being stolen?
Stolen audio is being used in gfy banners at this very moent, why no one crying about it?
