    Would you support FLOGGING for petty crimes?

    Okay, let's get real for a second... Every year, billions are spent warehousing people for petty crimes/minor drug dealing/possession/you name it... Not only does it cost money to shelter and feed these people, they also get "hardened" in prison and end up going back after they've done worse crimes.

    Instead of spending all those resources and destroying lives, why not just FLOG (public caning like in Singapore) these petty offenders.

    Less expensive, less exposure to hardened criminals, less systemic pressures. ALSO, there's a public aspect which might have a deterrent effect... but that's just a bonus.

    What do you guys think?

                      only people who reallllly fuck up like murder and stuff should be put in jail, if they arent a threat to society then fuck it just flog and release maybe even public floggings

                          they had this twilight zone episode years ago where if you did something bad you had a mark on your head and nobody could talk to you.

                          something like that but basically if you did something minor you get marked , then if you are a victim of crime you can find someone responsible for a similar crime. Maybe like an rfid chip..

                          then your punishment will be whatever society feels is fair at that particular time

                                              I think the US Government should charge prisoners for their jail time. Simple really - If it costs the US government $20k a year to house a prisoner, in addition to jail time they should receive a $20k fine. If they fail to pay, fuck it, through them back in prison.

                                              (I just looked it up - It costs $47k a year to house a prisoner in California!)

                                                  That's right. I went to Catholic school too. Those Don Bosco teachers don't mess around. Quick punishment really did the trick.

                                                      This already happens in county jails depending on the state, most inmates are charged $2/day which soon might be upped to $3/day to cover the expenses of housing. Although most inmates who can't afford it usually get money put on someones elses account and pay that inmate rent so they can still order commissary items without worrying about their back rent.

                                                              I also went to catholic school like the first 9 years of schooling... Only one teacher in 3rd grade grabbed me by my hair once when I was throwing food at a kid who said something disrespectful to me. When my mother picked me up that day I told her and she choke slammed the teacher down a flight of steps.

                                                                  Problem with that is many prisoners have life or even multiple life sentences.

                                                                  I like the public canning idea and even put it pay per view with profits going to some sort of victim fund. I'm thinking dumbasses that for example tag others peoples property thinking they own it or vandals tearing up other people's stuff for no reason but thinking they are cool might have 2nd thoughts if they knew they could end up on the show. I also think get someone like Lewis Black to host the canning show to tell them what dumbasses they are...lol

                                                                      Funny how people that hate Muslim countries have a desire for our country to be just like them. Maybe a better answer is to stop incarcerating every motherfucker that has a bag of weed. Make all victimless crimes legal and quit letting private prisons dictate sentences for people.
