Colin Hanks is one of the worst actors I've ever seen. None of his dad's talent has rubbed off on him.
The writers are treating the long time fans of Dexter like fucking idiots, explaining everything as they go. It's like they hired all new people to write the scripts. It really sucks ass.

Lithgow's Trinity Killer... Man his performance was so fucking on for that season. Even him ordering coffee he made extremely creepy. I can't see them topping that unless they get Anthony Hopkins, Daniel Day Lewis, Hugo Weaving, Ralph Fiennes or Gary Oldman. Not only that, but their character would have to have one hell of a backstory and reasoning.-uno

There's a difference in quality between Showtime and HBO shows.
HBO stuff is on a different tier. Boardwalk Empire has an artistry and subtlety in the writing that makes it seem like watching a good movie. Shows like Dexter can't even begin to approach it.Comment

I hate him but I am not through that season yet and maybe something will wow me and make me change my mind? It's also my boyfriends least favorite season so I am not alone.
I only just got into the show. He's been watching it for years and I always distracted myself on the Internet when watching. But for some reason I started paying attention, asking questions and am now super into it.

Yeah, in the teasers before the start of this season they hinted that was going to go down (Deb busting Dexter), but doesn't look likely at the moment.
Deb's therapy sessions have been annoying and I don't like where they are taking that. Colin Hanks really is pretty awful. Also having serial killers come after Dexter's family again is a little too much.
I would really like to see something more original. Almost every season seems to revolve around one of two major plot lines - Dexter playing cat and mouse with some mastermind serial killer (Ice Truck / Trinity / Doomsday) or Dexter lets someone into his life only to have them betray his trust ( Lila / Miguel ). I think what I liked best about the season before this one (Lumen) was it was a little more realistic. I mean, alot of crazy shit goes down in Florida that doesn't seem to happen anywhere else, I'd love to see them draw more on that.
I liked the twist they put on Doomsday, but Colin Hanks just can't pull it off w/o looking ridiculous in the process. Just getting bored w/ the show to be honest.

I quite like this season, it's his 'inner-struggle'.. thats the whole point of the season, shit-face hanks is just a side story.

I agree. I am a big fan of Dexter and while this season isn't the best, it is still enjoyable to me and better than most other shows on TV.
Hall just signed on for two more seasons. I would love to see them take those two season to wrap it up and finish the story on a high note instead of just dragging it on for a handful more seasons then cancelling it.

The first season and the the season with Trinity was the best for me.
The current one is...yeah...not the best.

This season is suffering from catering to stupid viewers who don't get subtlety and need to be spoonfed every little tidbit.
It's still better than last season. This season looks good on paper, with Dexter questioning light vs. dark and the religious aspects, but the writers are too busy with lame subplots. They need to up the stakes on the show. Someone big needs to die, preferably Laguerta or Batista or both.
Still, a lame season of Dexter is better than the best seasons of 99% of what's on TV.Comment
