    adding domain to host - is this necessary?

    My other hosting companies allow me to add a domain regardless of whether the dns is pointed to that host server.... I have a couple of accounts with another company that I am really happy with otherwise, but this is really annoying... Is there a good reason for them to have it set up this way?


    this is the message that it gives when I try to add an add-on domain to an existing account(apparently it is not propagated yet, but it is annoying to not be able to set it up in advance):

    Bind reload skipped on *****85 (nameserver disabled) Bind reloading on ns2 using rndc zone: [******.com] Bind reloading on ns1 using rndc zone: [******.com] The subdomain, *****.********.com has been added.

    Error from park wrapper: Using nameservers with the following IPs: 66.***.***.2,66.***.***.3,66.***.***.215 Sorry, the domain is already pointed to an IP address that does not appear to use DNS servers associated with this server. Please transfer the domain to this servers nameservers or have your administrator add one of its nameservers to /etc/ip.remotedns and make the proper A entries on that remote nameserver.

    Removed *****.********.com Server at line: 15628. Removed Entry from httpd.conf Bind reload skipped on ******85 (nameserver disabled) Bind reloading on ns2 using rndc zone: [*******.com] Bind reloading on ns1 using rndc zone: [*******.com] The subdomain, *****.********.com has been removed.

    *****.com could not be setup. The subdomain *****.********.com was not setup either.

      I am lost. Are you saying you are trying to point to a nameserver that isn't resolved yet?

          *****.com could not be setup. The subdomain *****.********.com was not setup either.
          No. it's not needed. It's an option on cpanel that blocks the user/reseller from parking/creating domains that arent registered on the local DNS.

          Tell your host to login as root to WHM and go to server setup/tweak settings, then turning on this option:
          Code:
          Allow Creation of Parked/Addon Domains that resolve to other servers (ie domain transfers) [This can be a major security problem. If you must have it enabled, be sure to not allow users to park common internet domains.]

                      let's say the user parks cpanel.net and cpanel adds it to the internal DNS with it's own IP, the updates/licensing whatever that means that domain would stop working.
                      so, you know, it's a security risk
