What's the secret to clear thumbs?

Can anyone tell me how to make thumbs that are super clear?

What happens to me is that I have a large image and I cut it into a rectangle to make the thumb and then I shrink it to make it thumbnail size. When I shrink it, the image becomes blurry. How do I keep it clear?

I do gallery reviews and I see the same webmasters consistenly sending crisp quality thumbs day after day. I don't think it's because that's how they bought them. I think they touch them up because another webmaster will submit the same content and it'll be grainy.

You can also play with hue saturation brightness curves etc...

do you use the same curves settings for all the images or is it different for every pic?

That method is kickass! Doing that now and they're coming out great!
                      thanks

Unfortunately I'm on 5.0 and it doesnt have a "save for web" option, that I can see.
But I dont think (or know) if theres a difference of just saving the thumb as a jpeg or using the save for web feature (that I don't have)

                          np

no jpg is jpg the "for web" just has different adjustments bit if your new clear jpgs fall within your personal gallery/page file size requirements, you will be fine using 5
