    Sure of your nationality?

What happened if your entire life you thought you were one nationality and you seemed comfortable with that knowledge. Then one day - while burrying your grandmother - you discover - GASP! - that your not what you thought you were, but instead your IRISH?

Does this mean I have to drink in pubs and get into fist fights and then get thrown out?

Seriously. My father died when I was nine months old, and I was basically raised thinking I was Polish (keep your light bulb jokes to yourself please!). During my grandmother's funeral I spoke to the "family historian" (freakish woman!) and she told me I was Irish.

Does explain a lot. At the very least it explains why I like to call people "Lad".

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

I'm of Norwegian descent. (not so distant). Didn't explain a lot, both of you could probably guess it as you've both met me.

I recently found out that I was of Assyrian descent, I was under the impression I was of Lebanese background. Same shit really, but one has a history more rich then the other..

well that certainly explains many things.

              Your uncontrollable alcoholism.
Your ability to bare knuckle fist fight and win.

I know my family line back several hundred years, did the research about 10 years ago
Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
                      think about that

I had something sort of similar happen in the last few years.

Both my parents were from Sicily. I was born and raised in the U.S, speak Italian, love Italian food and am pretty Italian in every way.........except I don't look Italian at all. I have blue eyes and brown hair and am never mistaken for Italian on first glance.

Now considering I'm from the most southern part of Italy I would think I should have dark hair and dair eyes like most southern Italians.

What I've learned over the last few years is
                                1. The more north of Italy u go the taller, blonde hair, blue/green etc. eyes people get. Look and see the various countries that Italy borders and it makes sense.
                                2. The more south of Italy you go the darker skin, dark eyes & hair people get.

But when you get to Sicily it's a completely crap shoot. People are completley mixed and have every hair color, skin complection & eye color imaginable. Why? Cause Sicily is the most conquered region of all Europe. It's the island most used for staging attacks all across Europe throughout history. So therefore Sicilians are techniqually as mixed as the most mixed American.

I always grew up thinking "I'm 100% Italian by heritage". I'm not mixed at all. My parents are from Sicily and there parents etc are all there. I'm first generataion born American, but techniqually I'm all Italian (so I thought).

But now understanding the history of Sicily I know why I don't even look Italian and am probably mixed with everything.

I guess I'm not really lying when I tell women I'm black from the waist down!

Here's everyones Sicilian history lesson of the day, lol

I think I was switched at birth. Well, I joke about it at least.

I look nothing like my parents who are both of East European and Russian Jewish descent. Everyone has dark hair and eyes in my family (I'm a redhead, with green eyes and freckles) and has been overweight at one time or another... I was painfully skinny the majority of my life and weighed in the 170s for less than a year of it (i'm 5' 11"). I'm a worker bee, was broke until my early 30s, can drink most people under the table, have had anger issues, and am good with tools.

Somewhere an Irish family has a doctor for a son.

hehe I say the same thing. I'm third generation Canadian.

But my paternal grandmother has traced her lines back to the English in during the Battle of Hastings, and my mother's side is all English/Scottish/Irish, so I just say I have English ancestry.
