    Quick Question about hosting and seo (simple stuff)

    Right I have never quite got my head around when starting up a new site that you dont want it to be recognised on the same server as an old one. Because I am going to use it for linking and seo


    Right so first of all I have this i.p. on this server

    207.200.62.75


    Now When I want to add a new domain that will link to it.

    I select next available unique i.p.
    which is
    207.200.62.89


    Now is that big enough of a difference, or will I get penalised if I link from my 89 to my 75, will the se's be able to spot that off a mile away, as them being both my sites. or sites on the same server, so probably the same person.
    would I need completely different numbers, for example

    77.245.54.254

    to do a proper linking capaign?

    Let me know what you think, I know this will be very simple to some of you, but I cant quite figure it out or get it round my head yet.

    How much of a difference do you need?

    p.s. the domains i have used are completley random and I have no idea where the go, if anywhere

      I think the C class is more important and the change is probably too small to really give the illusion that the sites are completely unrelated. Nonetheless, if it's only linking one or two sites together, it's not going to do any damage. The times you run into issues with IPs is when you have hundreds of sites on the same IP interlinking.

          207.200.62.75


          to



          77.245.54.254


          and that class a-b is similar from 207.200.62.75 to 207.200.62.89


          so when I go to assign a new ip to a new domain i should being safe rather than sorry.

          Whats the downside from assigning a completely different ip? How come everybody doesnt do it?

          In regards to what else you said, I think I will go the 207.200.62.75 to 77.245.54.254 just to be safe rather than sorry.

              PK is right, IP addresses play a VERY small part - only if you have a very large number of sites on the same IP address that deal with either the same content or interlink with each other is is important to split them apart.

              A lot of times webmasters think that a dedicated IP address will somehow accelerate their SE rankings, that's not the case. Concentrate on the basics page content, meta tags, and other SEO concepts first.

              Finally when you've built up a considerable stable of sites on a single IP should you consider spreading them out.
