The thing I hate about it is that they force cliched and unrealistic conflict between the characters simply to propel the sub-plots which are hackneyed and lame.
It's as if half the time these characters aren't really in a world surrounded by flesh eating zombies but more so back in their respective towns pissing and moaning about the same old shit, which is ludicrous considering their situation.
In Romero's Dawn Of The Dead, after the group settles into the mall they begin reverting back to their old ways, like bored people at a mall. But the film was in large part a satire on consumerist society gone mad which worked very well. As a movie.
In The Walking Dead they don't give you much that you can sink your teeth into, and maybe it's because the sub-genre has been really, really played to death. Or undeath.
