Insurance recommended? - Newbie

Hi. I am starting an adult community website and one component includes porn. Would you recommend purchasing insurance? If so, which companies would you recommend? Thank you for your comments, best of luck AND Go Fuck Yourself. Jlist

Do porn sites not have some type of general insurance? I live in CA where everybody sues everybody so I don't want to take any chances. Also, there is potential copy right infringement with my site. After speaking with numerous lawyer friends, they think I’ll be fine but I want to cover my ASSets. Thanks!

Well I've never heard that question before so good for you for being original As to your question... the only insurance I can think of that you might possibly ever need is insurance from being sued for copyright theft. My advice is don't bother. Just make it well known to the members of your community that copyright infringement won't be tolerated.
If something slips past you then you may at some point get an email from someone saying their material is posted on your community somewhere. Just take it down asap and punish/ban the person who posted it. Most of the time that'll be the end of it but unless it's going on all the time on your site I doubt you'll need insurance

Thanks for the response! Just to clarify, there may be potential copyright infringement with the DOMAIN NAME of my site. The content I am not worried about.

The name of my site, currently under construction, is Johnslist.com. The site will include recommended porn sites, an adult escort directory, escort reviews, adult job board and even booty call encounters with the locals. My biggest fear is having the craiglist lawyers knocking on my door!

I seriously doubt they will go after you for that lol. Many people own domains similar to other peoples. I don't think domain are copyrighted or trademarked like companies are otherwise you'd of heard about massive lawsuits filled against people who own domains like rbay or fbay or whatever.

btw if you try to turn your domain name into a trademark or company name you may have a little trouble with craiglist. I just saw a thread in the fucking around/program discussion forum along those lines.

First, you have nothing to worry about on the copyright infringement issue. But if you're that worried about getting sued, form an LLC or an LP to hold the domain.

Why Bother?

IN GENERAL, the cost of insurance relates to the liklihood of the potential outcome. There's no free lunch in the insurance biz.

Folks like Lloyd's of London have made a business out of insuring obscure outcomes that other underwriters aren't comfortable with.

To the extent you want to insure against a possible lawsuit from Craigslist, you looking at a complicated underwriting that will definitely result in a high premium.

Your best best would be to try to obtain some garden variety business liability insurance, which probably wouldn't explicitly give you the protection and peace of mind you want. But for a small investment, you might be able to try to extract some coverage if you get sued.
