    YouTube Becoming the Next MySpace

Lately I have noticed that YT is getting overrun with this technique.

When a new song comes out I like, historically it's been easier to just watch the band's music video on YouTube. However, I have noticed recently there is an endless amount of people making "Official Music Video..." of whomever and then you get some sort of B list interview show, or some dude talking about the music video and how she did him wrong, or alike. Some have went so far as to screen cap the first frame of the actual REAL music video to get people to click on their video.

You used to see this on rare occasion, and sure it was annoying. But in the past week I have tried to look up roughly three dozen different videos and endless caught in this loop of bullshit videos instead of the official one. Which is often times not even listed in the main selections. You have to scroll down, know what is the opening shot, and eventually find it.

While I am sure it's great for affiliate marketers to game the system. At some point it literally overruns a good service and makes it worthless to the end user. I can only imagine the frustration by those who use YT a lot more than I do.

Wow, and just think that if copyright enforcement was actually happening then there
would only be one video uploaded (by the band) and you would find the correct one in
    just one click.

    Too bad.

It's "fair use" to put up a bunch of dumb shit containing copyrighted pics and video.

Ironically MySpace has done a complete rework into something new. Looks kinda like a online magazine now and kind of a interesting turn around.

        edit.. fixed the url

Seems the new owners are taking the site in a new direction to revive that beaut.

                That ^^^^^

And I've noticed that a lot of the mainstream artists now have their "Official Videos" through Vevo on YT. So I generally look for the video uploaded by "HollywoodUndeadVEVO" or whatever.

                  Here we go again.

The reason YouTube doesn't get in trouble is safe harbor, not fair use. Instead of being able to sue YouTube the content owner would have to DMCA then sue the submitter if they didn't respond or put the request in to republish it. Doing what was described above is not even fair use anyhow, nobody has ever claimed that it was.

Your point about making it easier to go after infringing material has nothing to do with fair use. If you want to debate the pros and cons of that there are a lot here that would chime in but you are talking nonsense at the moment.

Also, please remove the copyrighted picture from your avatar.
Edit: I forgot that you claimed fair use on that from our last discussion.

Of course what I described is not fair use.

Do you think any of the people who upload to Youtube claim fair use? It doesn't sound fair to me, but do some uploaders think that all use is fair?

A growing number of people thing "information is free". They carry this attitude over to art and think stopping the flow of information / art is wrong. So no, most don't think it's fair use legally, they just don't care. The people uploading what's described above are just spamming.

If you only use one frame from a music video, it is fair use. That's what the op is saying, they take a frame from the original music video, make it the thumbnail pic for their own bullshit video, so it appears to be the real thing.
