The only 2 I have consistently promoted is traffic-out and juicyads as they work for me and I have tried quite a few and still trying more but I don't promote stuff that didn't work for me personally. Using plugrush as we speak and if I don't like what I find it will be pulled like others have been in the past, up now as I used them before the relaunch and it was decent. Some other companies may work better for others which is why analyzing is needed. I like your thinking though as it leaves more traffic for us that know how to monetize it. I do mainstream as well so I'll send the checks back and tell google all the sales I made from their traffic must have been a mistake because why would they sell it if it converts.
