Want to learn from the best - Adult Webmasters - Point me to Resources please.

    Hey,

I keep reading around and hearing that the best and most innovative webmasters around are in the adult biz, so I thought I'd join this forum and learn a thing or two.

To start with, can you explain how a traffic trade works, and why anyone would want to do it? Also, do you need special software to do it?

Besides that, why don't webmasters in other industries do things like sell traffic through companies like trafficholder? Or perhaps more easily answered, why do adult webmasters sell their traffic through companies like trafficholder?

Another questions: what is "clicked only" traffic? Is that as opposed to spyware/adware popups? Is it something else?

Finally, are there some resources you could point me to where I could read/watch/listen and learn? I'm not looking for anything particular to the adult game per se, more like stuff that's applicable beyond dicks and clits.

    Thanks for all your help!

    Oh, and something else:
How do thumbnail gallery posts work? How does a TGP site make money?
On a related note, if someone like a graphic designer wanted to post their graphics and stuff online, would tgp scripts be a good idea? Or is there an easier/better way to do that? How about stuff that integrates with wordpress easily?

      Hey, welcome to the board.

If you consider adult business as a source of income, you might wanna read more about TGP game (submitting galleries to TGP/MGP's), about Free Sites, etc..
Take a look at these official Tutorials for Chameleon tools, there you can see what do they do, how to submit galleries and related stuff, how does the software for this actually look like/how to make maximum out of it.. Its been made in Macromedia Flash, you can download it here: http://www.chameleonsubmitter.com/tutorials.php

You also had many other questions so hopefully this will be a bump for more answers as well.
      Good luck!

        As for selling traffic...

Adult traffic can be bought and sold because it's a fungible commodity. Generally speaking, your average porn surfer is interested in porn, and isn't too fussy about brand names. If he clicks on a link on my adult site, and gets sent to another adult site (in a similar niche), he'll be OK with it.

Obviously, this business model won't work with other web consumers, who might be looking to buy a new television or a pair of speakers.

That's a pretty simplistic explanation, but I think that pretty much sums it up in a nutshell.

          Welcome

          Traffic trades.. a laymen's terms.

The idea can be applied to almost any product. Say I do a goth girls site, rather mild and like it that way (really..true story!) and another dude/gal does goth hardcore fetish, something I wouldn't do, we're basically in the same category. My surfers like what I do, but may want more edgy stuff, I send them to him. Vice versa. It both ups our relevance on search engines and is mutually beneficial.

Wow! Some really great answers so far! Who knew the adult webmaster community would be so helpful??!

da man, I don't personally consider adult as a source of income (beyond some parking, which I'm looking to quit anyways to focus on my core business of SEO), but I do want to learn as much as I can, in the hopes of being able to carry that knowledge over and get an edge in other industries.
Regardless, I'm checking out your tgp tutorial, partly out of curiosity, and partly because I have friends whose graphic work might benefit from me being more familiar with graphic technology. Thanks a lot for all your help and the warm welcome!

Lacuna, that made selling traffic very clear. So long as there's some boobs and butts, the surfer is happy so it's all about the same. Makes sense. How does the tracking and payment work though? On a related note, would you have any idea what other industries would have such fungible traffic?
Also, how would you generate that traffic to begin with, if you're not buying it? SEO? That's got to be brutally difficult in the adult game...

Toreador, you summed up traffic trades simply and beautifully. Basically, you're working with other sites in your niche that aren't direct competition in order to both do better. Sounds like a great idea! Can you explain to me in more detail how it's done?

Thanks again to all three of you and I hope that the rest of the GFY community will lend a n00b a hand as well!

It's not always a non-compete link trade. You both gain by the add. Many use linkex. I never had, perhaps someone can elaborate for him. I personal hand code in their links to my main page.

                    Hi SEO Montreal

Why would you think the adult webmaster community would be unhelpful?

It's very unlikely you'll get all your questions answered in this thread. Search around, google industry blogs and tutorials, network, decide what you want to promote and look to the most popular methods. I would advise against tgp right now. Use your seo knowledge and apply it here.

                      Hey Kristian

I dunno, I'd been at another forum where people claimed to be in that industry and the atmosphere was that it was cool to be a jerk. I guess it was some silly wannabes.

Anyways, thanks for the tips on looking around. I'll definitely have to check all this out. I'm not looking to get into adult, btw, just to learn from adult webmasters' methods.
