    Atlanta Air traffic control Transmission--- Please read

    Southerners are so polite!



    Atlanta ATC: "Tower to Saudi Air 922 -- You are cleared to land Eastbound on runway 9R."

    Saudi Air: "Thank you Atlanta ATC. Acknowledge cleared to land on infidel's runway 9R - Allah be Praised."

    Atlanta ATC: "Tower to Iran Air 715 -- You are cleared to land Westbound on runway 9R."

    Iran Air: "Thank you Atlanta ATC. We are cleared to land on infidel's runway 9R. - Allah is Great."

    Pause: Static..

    Saudi Air: " ATLANTA ATC! - ATLANTA ATC!"

    Atlanta ATC: "Go ahead Saudi Air 922"

    Saudi Air: "YOU HAVE CLEARED BOTH OUR AIRCRAFT FOR THE SAME RUNWAY GOING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS. WE ARE ON A COLLISION COURSE! INSTRUCTIONS!?!? PLEASE!!!!!"

    Atlanta ATC: "Well bless your hearts, and praise Jesus. Y'all be careful now and tell Allah "hey" for us -- y'all have a nice day...."

                                          Nice joke, except that runways aren't numbered that way. 09R would be 27L for the reverse, making it rather hard for the general public to get the joke. But that's okay.

                                                  And they state the wind direction and speed first.. then the designated runway.. then the landing clearance.

                                                                      really? wind direction and speed? i think only if it has changed somewhat from the ATIS information..or if the pic did not confirm he has ATIS when he made initial contact with tower, incidentally landing clearances comes from the tower controller who ofcourse is also ATC but in general airjock terms ATC is either approach/departure or center..

                                                                          whether the pilot states he has ATIS or not, you still give wind direction and speed to an aircraft taking off, landing, or doing a low approach.

                                                                          A tower controller is an air traffic controller.. a ground controller is an air traffic controller... the flight data guy is an air traffic controller. The guy doing approach or departure is an air traffic controller... the guy at center is an air traffic controller. You dont just learn one position at the academy, you learn them all and then the facility chief will assign you to whatever opening he needs filled. It is all referred to as ATC because ATC = Air Traffic Control.
